Xolo Maridueña’s DCU Return Seemingly Confirmed as James Gunn’s Rebooted DCU Has a Major Connection With ‘Blue Beetle’
DC’s latest young blue superhero made his impressive debut in the DC Universe. Xolo Maridueña’s portrayal of the Blue Beetle received acceptance worldwide and is now confirmed as the first creation of James Gunn’s DC Universe. With the introduction of Blue Beetle by director Angel Manuel Soto, excitement has grown about what James Gunn has in store for us. The Neo-Superhero movie includes two post-credit scenes that hint at the potential for a new dimension of storytelling that would greatly cater to the franchise’s future direction.
Blue Beetle post-credit tease unveils Ted Kord
The Blue Beetle follows the story of a teenager, Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), who encounters an alien device called Scarab that fuses with him, providing him with superpowers and turning him into a Blue Beetle. As we know, the scrab is an alien superweapon created by an alien race called Reach, which arrived on Earth many millennia before the events of the Blue Beetle. Jaime is the third one to take up the mantle of Blue Beetle; at some point in history, Dan Garrett turns into the initial host over to the Scarab. Though tech genius Ted Kord could not transgress into the Blue Beetle, he absorbed the Scarab’s power and created the Kord Industries conglomerate. Once Dan Garrett died, the scarab detached from its host, becoming inert, and in between, Kord disappeared nowhere due to his wife’s death.
DC is preparing for a reboot, and the director, James Gunn, has already announced the new superhero will join the DC Universe. According to the director of Blue Beetle, Soto, the post-credit scene has a significant impact on driving the story to a new extent by revealing the whereabouts of Ted Kord.
Even though he is unable to bond with the scarab, he uses his family’s wealth and his scientific knowledge to become a Blue Beetle. Kord even built a secret headquarters below his family mansion. And well, he does remind us of Batman. In the post-credit scene, Jaime visits Kord’s bunker after learning his whereabouts from his daughter, Jenny Kord. Gradually Kord’s system activates and sends a surprising message that he is alive.
“Hello, hello! Oh my God, it’s working. Whoever turned on my computer got a message from my daughter, Jenny Kord. Tell her I love her and I’m alive.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director Soto revealed, “We had it written down [in the script]. We knew that was what we wanted our story to have.” Therefore, it is certain that the Blue Beetle’s first post-credit scene suggests that Jaime Reyes will continue his superhero journey and potentially create an intensive impact in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU storyline.
Director hints Booster Gold and Blue Beetle reunion in DC Reboot
Booster Gold, an iconic character in DC Comics, has a significant connection to the former Blue Beetle, Ted Kord. Both share an enduring friendship despite their differences; Booter’s ambition and Kords’s intellect contemplate a strong bond. In regards to the arrival of Ted Kord in upcoming DC reboots, director Soto teases the possibility of Booter Gold, saying that we might see them together on screen since they hold a strong bond. He implied that the mid-credits are a buildup towards that. Soto explained,
“Ted Kord is still alive; he’s somewhere out there in the universe, and whatever the future holds for our hero is open to interpretation. Whether that is Booster Gold or Ted Kord, or if it is both of them [together], the possibility exists, and it is something that we want to entertain. We all love Ted Kord and Booster Gold, and knowing that James Gunn also has plans for Booster Gold, it felt like the right thing for us to continue with.”
Perhaps, with all these interpretations, Blue Beetle 2 should be opened to explore further developments in Jaime’s relationship with the scarab and its origin, along with the Kord’s story, before venturing into the past adventures of Booster Gold and Ted Kord.
