What is the Plot of Yellowstone Season 5?

In Season 5, part 2 of Yellowstone, the story is building up to a big finish. After learning about the Train Station, Beth urges John that they need to get rid of Jamie, who is secretly working with Sarah Atwood.

This time, the Duttons might have to fight without Rip, as he’s off leading the ranch hands on a cattle drive to Texas. This could connect to the new 6666 spinoff. Meanwhile, Jamie is trying to kick John out of office, adding more tension.

John wants to protect the ranch with his conservation plan, but Jamie and Sarah have other ideas to develop the land. The leaders from Broken Rock—Chief Thomas Rainwater, Mo, and Angela Blue-Thunder—could play a key role, especially with the federal pipeline crossing their land.

Overall, Season 5, part 2 is gearing up for an action-packed conclusion, and it looks like there could be a lot of drama and even some losses for the Dutton family along the way.

Kevin Costner might be leaving, but the core crew is back! Although, Costner appears briefly in the trailer for the second half of Season 5. Also, expect to see Kelly Reilly as the fierce Beth Dutton, Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, and Wes Bentley as Jamie Dutton.

Plus, our fave Rip Wheeler, played by Cole Hauser, is still in the show. Even Chief Thomas Rainwater, played by Gil Birmingham, is ready to stir things up!

Why is Kevin Costner Not Returning?

It’s unclear if this season will wrap up the Dutton story, although there are rumors that Kevin Costner and other stars might return for another season. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Costner mentioned he’s still interested in coming back, saying, “I’d like to be able to do it, but we haven’t been able to.”

He originally thought there would be seven seasons, but now we’re at five. The star hopes to return if things work out, despite the many projects at Paramount. According to Parade, Costner’s reported concerns about returning include issues over payment for seasons 6 and 7, even though Paramount might end the series with season 5.

He also has a contract clause giving him a say in how his character, John Dutton, might die. Costner told Deadline that delays were due to not having enough scripts and that showrunner Taylor Sheridan was overwhelmed with too many projects. This caused filming conflicts for Costner as he juggled directing his own movie, Horizon.
