Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has certainly been a fan favorite for a long time now, but that does not mean that fans mind another version of the young superhero. If anything, everyone is thrilled that they are getting a fresh take on the character that is not jumping from one timeline to another. That said, the cameos in this show will also be worth the watch. In fact, they might be even better than what fans witnessed in X-Men ’97.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be cameo-rich as there is no bar on the characters that can be used

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man might bring on the renaissance that Marvel has been waiting for considering how well the first two episodes have performed. The show will chronicle Peter Parker’s journey through high school as a young superhero who is being mentored by Norman Osborn.

This series is not set in the MCU’s timeline so Tony Stark is not the mentor here and some other changes do not coincide with Peter’s story in that universe. That, however, does not stop it from using characters from the MCU.

In fact, the writer of the show, Jeff Trammell revealed to Marvel.com that no characters are “off-limits” for this series.

Everyone has been super supportive about the stories that we want to tell. What do you mean I can use Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in this show! I didn’t expect you to say yes!

Trammell had assumed that they might not have permission to use some characters, but luckily, that does not seem to be the case. In the first two episodes alone, Doctor Strange has appeared and numerous other references related to the other Avengers have been made.

X-Men ’97 was also quite rich in cameos. From the Scarlet Witch to Spider-Man and Mary Jane, there was no shortage of cameos from the Avengers throughout the show. Even so, it did not have as much liberty as this new show about Spidey.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a tribute to the character’s journey in the comic books

Spider-Man has been one of the most beloved superheroes for a long time. His rogues’ gallery is also very striking. The most important aspect of this character is his relatability. Every teenager familiar with him has likely imagined themselves in his position at some point.

The character first appeared in a comic book in 1962. He has since appeared in a lot of comic books and has been adapted multiple times. This new show is a tribute of sorts to everything that has come before it. Trammell said:

So much of our show is a love letter to the past — to the comics and everything that’s come before. So, naturally, you’re going to go way back to the beginning. What is the thing that made Spider-Man stand out? What made it so special even then? And how can we take that and honor it, but find a way to modernize it? We want to pay respect to everything that came before us.

The writer expressed his praise for lead character designer Leo Romero who helped in tailoring the show’s aesthetic which is a throwback to the comic books by Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr.

The first two episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are available for streaming on Disney+.
