Zendaya’s Film Challengers has Helped Her Achieve a Giant Career Milestone That Even Dune 2 Couldn’t
Although the craze of Dune Part Two might have made one miss Zendaya’s most acclaimed movie, Challengers, its brilliance has not passed the hawk-eyed critics.
Dune Part Two might be the highest-grossing film of the year so far and might hold significant value in Zendaya’s career, the Euphoria actress and two-time Emmy victor is all set to break boundaries and achieve giant career milestones that even Dune Part Two would fall short of.
Be it a cannibal romance (Bones N All) or a queer story (Call Me By Your Name), Luca Guadagnino has always left a deep-seated mark on Hollywood’s map. Now, with his new movie Challengers, with Zendaya as a frontwoman, he is again set to achieve milestones some directors can only dream of.
Zendaya’s Film Challengers Set This Record In Her Career That Even Dune 2 Could Not
Although Challengers is nowhere near Dune 2’s box office collection, it has already helped the Spider-Man actress reach a milestone she probably never thought would be possible at such a young age. Both Dune Part Two and Spider-Man: No Way Home sit at a major 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95% and a Metascore rating of 88, Challengers has officially become the highest-rated movie of Zendaya’s career, leaving behind big names and franchises like Denis Villeneuve and Marvel (via. ScreenRant)
Penned by newcomer Justin Kuritzkes, the spouse of the acclaimed Past Lives writer-director Celine Songs, Challengers hardly looks like the work of a novice. In fact, the dexterity with which it weaves through a 13-year narrative of the life of Tashi Duncan and her sexual escapades as she turns to a former buddy of her husband to make him jealous is not only palpable but is making many hail this as Guadagnino’s best work yet. It is also being predicted as an early contender for the Oscars. However, many are also afraid of a snub due to various reasons.
How Good Are The Chances Of Zendaya Being An Oscar Contender Next Year For Challengers?
Although Zendaya never needed attention from award shows to showcase her brilliance, ignoring her on the award circuit is becoming harder and harder each day. The youngest two-time Emmy winner is speculated to be set for the Oscars next year for her titular role in Challengers. According to critics’ predictions, she might be up against seasoned veterans like Lady Gaga (Joker: Folie à Deux), Saoirse Ronan (The Outrun), and Emma Stone (Kinds of Kindness).
It is still a point of contention as to whether Oscar will snub this masterpiece due to its sexual nature. Although Femme Fatales has recently picked up its place at the prestigious award show, the history of snubs to the legendary Sharon Stone’s Basic Instinct or Nicole Kidman’s To Die For remains unforgiven. However, with changing times, one can see actresses like Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl or Carey Mulligan for Promising Young Woman entering the race. So one can hope Zendaya will at least secure a nomination, if not a win in the worst-case scenario.
The movie comes out on Friday, April 26, 2024, in the US and most international territories.
