Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen enticed fans with the lively trio of Itadori Yuji, Fushiguro Megumi, and Kugisaki Nobara. Fans were enamored with Itadori and Kugisaki’s antics while Fushiguro always seemed to suffer in silence. Along with the two male characters, Kugisaki Nobara posed as the quintessential female friend in the trio of friends as well as a significant main character.

However, all of this was cut short by Kugisaki’s untimely death in Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen as fans just watched on in disbelief. Of course, her death can be blamed on Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, and their love for killing all their characters, something they have explained before as well.

This is not always a wise decision on their part as it prevents the character from developing, and leaves many character arcs incomplete. Kugisaki’s character arc was far from complete and fans were devastated by the knowledge that they won’t get to see such a strong character in action again. However, her death is not quite certain yet.

Kugisaki Nobara’s Death Was Never Confirmed In The Series

The Shibuya Incident arc gave fans an unexpected turn in the series with Kugisaki’s incredibly shocking death, given the importance of her character to the plot. This arc also saw Gege Akutami unleashing their inner demons and killing off characters left and right, and Kugisaki got caught right in the center.

Kugisaki joined the fight when the battle between Itadori and Mahito was getting intense. Mahito had split himself into two at this point, with one part of him fighting Itadori and the other fighting Kugisaki. When Mahito realized that the other half was at a disadvantage against Kugisaki since it could not use Idle Transfiguration, he swapped places.

However, Kugisaki had not realized that the swap happened, and she was hit with Idle Transfiguration when she least expected it. Touching the left side of Kugisaki’s face, Mahito was able to destroy her, leaving her for dead. A small flashback of Kugisaki was displayed after this, which all but confirmed her death.

However, Jujutsu Kaisen fans need to keep it together and take note of the fact that Kugisaki’s death was never explicitly confirmed in the series. While Kugisaki suffered from a dangerous injury that could have jeopardized her life, it is worth considering that she is not dead yet. Against all odds, there is still hope for this fan-favorite character to make a return.

Aoi Todo’s Surprising Return Implies Kugisaki Nobara Might Still Be Alive

While the odds are against Kugisaki, it is still too early to say whether she is truly dead or Gege Akutami is playing tricks on the Jujutsu Kaisen fans and setting her up for a grand return down the line. If any character could vouch for that, it would be Aoi Todo, whose return to the battle shocked fans to their cores.

Although Todo’s case is slightly different from Kugisaki’s as fans were aware that Aoi Todo was alive after Shibuya despite losing a limb, his return in the latest chapter with a renewed Boogie Woogie Curses Technique proves that nothing is set in stone and Kugisaki Nobara might still make it after all.

If Todo could survive being hit by Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration, then Kugisaki could survive as well. Yes, her injuries were considerably more severe and could easily have led to her death, but there are chances that her injuries are non-fatal. This implies that there is a slight chance for Kugisaki to make a return to the series.

Kugisaki’s return to the series right now would also make a lot of sense because she would be a great asset in the battle against Ryomen Sukuna. Defeating the King of Curses would be no easy task, and it is well-known that Kugisaki can deal damage directly to the enemies’ souls. With her skills, she would be pivotal in this battle if only Gege Akutami could do something about it!

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via VIZ Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app.
