1 Actress Was “Definitely Interested” to Beat Jennifer Lawrence for Hunger Games Role
Jennifer Lawrence has indisputably slayed the role of the resilient Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movies. But what if we tell you that another actress could have helmed the role instead of Lawrence?
This might come as a surprise to many that acclaimed actress Emma Roberts was quite interested in playing the lead role in the successful Hunger Games franchise, but somehow she failed to secure the role. Although Roberts couldn’t make it to the adaption from the novels, she doesn’t hold any hard feelings and mentioned being impressed by the books and was eager to watch the movie.
Emma Roberts Wanted To Play Katniss Everdeen in Hunger Games
The Hunger Games franchise is lauded as one of the most successful ones in the world of entertainment which stars the impeccable actress, Jennifer Lawrence, as the main lead and focus of all movies. Lawrence received immense commendation for portraying Katniss who’s an incredible fighter and earned a huge fanbase. These movies are an adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novels.
However, several other talented actors almost snatched Lawrence’s lead role, and out of them was Nickelodeon’s teen sitcom star Emma Roberts who wasn’t as famous as Lawrence was but once revealed being pumped for securing the role. Roberts told MTV that:
“I was definitely interested in it, but it was just one of those things that didn’t end up happening, But I’m really excited to see the movie. I read all the books a couple of weeks ago and I’ve got all my friends hooked, so it’s totally cool and I can’t wait to see it.”
Now what might come as a flabbergast to many is that Jennifer Lawrence generated quite an exciting and huge fanbase by portraying Katniss as almost rejected it. Yes, you read it right that we might have never witnessed her as the symbol of rebellion against the oppressive Capitol. In The Rewatchables podcast, she said:
“I almost didn’t do ‘Hunger Games’ because ‘Twilight’ had come out and that fandom had happened…When I was trying to talk to people about making this decision after they offered it to me, I was just like, I don’t know. It was so hard to explain to people.”

Filming the movies wasn’t smooth sailing for the actress as she almost went deaf due to a failed stunt. While talking about the major challenges in filming the 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Jennifer Lawrence revealed sustaining numerous injuries after a failed water stunt that caused her a double ear infection and temporary deafness for almost a week. The X-Men star told Empire:
“So I eventually got my hearing back, and now I get this tearing noise every time I yawn. I really should go back to the doctor and ask them what that means. ‘Tell me, is this normal? I’m in pain 24/7. Help me.”
The Oscar winner humorously mentions not visiting the doctor immediately as she believes she’s a genius. The stunt included Lawrence jumping into stagnant water and then into water jets and this was when one of the water jets used in different stunts went into her ear causing temporary deafness. However, the End of the Street star recovered but had a painful experience while shooting.
