’13 Million Dollars On This Stupid Sh*t?’: DC Fans In Shock As Zack Snyder Reportedly Decimated WB Studios Leadership Just So He Could Have Martian Manhunter In Snyder Cut
Due to other plans for the character, Warner Bros. apparently did not want Martian Manhunter to be a part of the Justice League directed by Zack Snyder. On March 18, 2021, Warner Bros. would then broadcast Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max, a film that audiences once never imagined they would see. The movie was hailed for its epic scope and inclusion of DC Easter eggs, and many people thought it was a significant upgrade over the theatrical cut the studio released in 2017.
Zack Snyder seemed to have pulled questionable strings to get Martian Manhunter in the film
The director allegedly threatened to remove other scenes from the film if he wasn’t given permission to use the character. However, the filmmaker disputes this assertion, claiming he wouldn’t have the power to do so. The decision to include Martian Manhunter in the movie was made in Zack Snyder’s favor by Jason Kilar, who was the CEO of WarnerMedia at the time.
The closing scene of Zack Snyder’s Justice League has Bruce Wayne and Martian Manhunter interacting and was only included after the project received approval. It was filmed during the movie’s reshoots.

Warner Bros. never wanted Martian Manhunter to be in the film
One dispute over Martian Manhunter’s standing surfaced in a Rolling Stone article about the behind-the-scenes conflicts of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. According to sources, the character was not included in Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘s initial script, and the studio was taken by surprise when it was added. According to reports, Warner Bros. executive Walter Hamada asked that the character of Martian Manhunter be dropped from the movie because they had other ideas for him.
It’s important to note that Martian Manhunter was not supposed to appear at the film’s conclusion for context. Zack Snyder had chosen Wayne T. Carr to assume the role of John Stewart, who was originally intended to serve as a Green Lantern. At the time, it was stated that the concession was for Martian Manhunter to fill the void. However, Warner Bros. reportedly denied this request because they already had preparations for Green Lantern.

Turns out Zack Snyder never had permission to put Martian Manhunter in the Snyder Cut either, and did some behind the scenes, shady secret stuff to get it done, before Killar ultimately approved of the scenes. pic.twitter.com/NtIoCh2271

Given that Supergirl, which also featured the character, was ending after six seasons, it is possible that the character was created for Black Adam, The Flash, or even a DC streaming series. It will be fascinating to see if Warner Bros. still has intentions for the character now that he or she made an appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and whether or not Lennix will be called back, or if the DCEU will simply move on, after that.
