Taylor Sheridan’s beloved 1923 is back with its second and final season, premiering the first episode titled ‘The Killing Season’ on February 23, 2025, on Paramount+. Even though it has not been clarified how much time has passed since season 1’s finale, by the looks of the first episode, it is clear that the Duttons were forced to sell off almost their entire herd of cattle to pay the taxes.

As was established in the finale of season one, Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) took financial control of the Duttons’ land by paying off taxes owed by Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford). It has been known that if the Duttons are not able to pay the taxes, the ranch goes to Whitfield. But Jacob Dutton was denied a loan to purchase more cattle or hay and is against the idea of taking out a mortgage, so season one ended with how the Duttons will pay back Whitfield.

Many people at the time believed that the issue would have been solved with the union of Spencer Dutton (Brand Sklenar) and Alex (Julia Schlaepfer), as her family is pretty well off, but that fell out of the picture, especially with Alex being separated from Spencer. Season 2, episode 1 shows that she is under house arrest in Sussex, England, and she goes on to reveal that she is indeed pregnant with Spencer Dutton’s child.

Alex’s desperation to join her husband back in Montana keeps growing now that she is aware that she might not be able to travel soon. She takes the help of her friend Jennifer, who agrees to sell precious family jewelry so that she can afford a ticket to America. However, they are only able to buy a tourist class ticket on a ship to New York.

Jennifer said to Alex that she believed that if Alex could not get the bracelet, she’d understand that she needed it. The user mentioned,

1923 stars, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, talked about ‘potential season 3’

It is very well established that when Taylor Sheridan pitched 1923 to the network, he had only a two-season saga planned, but the studios are yet to confirm if season two is the final season for the prequel of Yellowstone. In a conversation with THR, Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford were asked if they’d like to return for season three. Mirren said,

Well, if any other job came my way where I got to work with Harrison, I would say yes in a nanosecond. If it happens to be an extension of this story, then absolutely. As long as Harrison is in it, I’ll be there.

As for Ford, he said that he values the relationship they are responsible for, adding that it’s a demonstration of how to get through life with a domestic partner. The actor who recently made his debut as Red Hulk in Captain America 4 noted that it’s a partnership as well as a love story, and that partnership is very powerful and instructive.

The actress further shared that they did not know the plot of 1923 when they were filming season one, and they ended up discovering it as they filmed. It’s the same with season two, noting that they get their scripts maybe 3-4 weeks before scheduled filming. She mentioned that they knew that they were in safe hands and that she had never had a feeling of insecurity.

Ford praised Taylor Sheridan’s writing by stating that it’s very strong and impressive.
