Denzel Washington, to put it simply, is not like the other actors. He admitted he neither has the time nor the patience to pull something like that off. He instead prefers that his wife help him out to ace a scene.
In an interview with Variety, he commented on how his The Little Things co-star, Jared Leto’s way was drastically different from his and he couldn’t be bothered.
“I stayed away from him. He stayed away from me, respectfully.”
Answering a question regarding how he performs his infamous crying scenes, he joked:
“My wife stands off camera and she slaps the taste out of my mouth right on action.”
That’s right, instead of bringing their work home, the couple brings their home at work. A perfect balance. The Genius actress is required for Washington on set. He prefers her being there to get his emotions and particularly his tear ducts flowing.

Denzel Washington and his wife Paulette have been married for four decades. When it comes to Hollywood marriages, it is quite the lesser-known accomplishment. They met in 1977, on the set of a TV movie Wilma. It was the Glory actor’s first acting role. Washington on Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2018, recalled this encounter with one of the track stars, now his wife.
“I didn’t meet her then, I saw her then.
The couple was later reintroduced at a party through mutual friends. And happened to bump into each other at a play. That’s how they started. Washington proposed to his now-wife thrice. She said yes the third time.
