28 Years Later Reveals New Deadly Look At Cillian Murphy’s Highly Anticipated Sequel
- A month after the trailer was dropped, a new look at 28 Years Later has been unveiled.
- This movie is the third installment of 28 Days Later franchise and will have more sequels.
- Cillian Murphy's appearance in the movie seems to be out of the question now.
28 Years Later has just debuted a new look at the film. 23 years ago, Cillian Murphy famously appeared in the post-apocalyptic survival thriller 28 Days Later. Just like most other movies starring the Irish actor, this one too turned out to be successful. At the time, its reach was not as great, but a decade or so later, it emerged as a cult classic.
Although director Danny Boyle claimed that the movie is not about zombies, it is credited for reviving the zombie genre horror film. Regardless of whether or not it’s about zombies, the movie certainly captures the thrill of those movies. A sequel to it was released in 2007 and now the third installment is all set to be released this year.
A new look at 28 Years Later has been recently revealed
28 Years Later, as the title suggests, is set 28 years after the first movie and people are no longer strangers to the rage virus that makes infected people look like zombies. While the first movie saw Murphy’s bicycle courier/survivor Jim trying to survive in a world affected by the virus after waking up from a coma, this new movie follows new characters.
The movie sees Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer as parents Jamie and Isla and Alfie Williams as their 12-year-old son Spike in addition to other characters. When the trailer of the film was released in December (via Sony Pictures Releasing on YouTube), many fans thought that the emaciated figure that appeared in the field was Cillian Murphy, thanks to those cheekbones that have had people’s attention for decades now.
However, that was debunked later as The Guardian revealed that the figure was that of model and art dealer Angus Neill who was talent-spotted by Danny Boyle himself. Recently, Empire magazine has revealed a new look at the film and it is once again Neill taking center stage.
Considering how much of a big impact that first glimpse at this character had, it seems plausible that they are using it for marketing. That said, fans are certainly not falling for it this time around now that they know that it is not Murphy. Regardless, the excitement for the movie is quite high as the director and writer of the original film, Danny Boyle, and Alex Garland have worked on it together.
Will Cillian Murphy appear in this film?
After Cillian Murphy’s Oscar-winning performance in longtime collaborator Christopher Nolan’s biopic, Oppenheimer, fans have been really excited to see what else the actor has in store for them. Last year, he appeared in the historical drama Small Things Like These, a passion project which he also produced alongside Matt Damon.
Ever since 28 Years Later was announced, everyone has been asking the same question: will Murphy be there? Last year in January, he told The Independent:
I would be there in a flash. I made two movies with both of those guys [Boyle and writer Alex Garland], and I would love to work with them again. Of course, I’m there.
To his credit, Murphy is executive producing the new trilogy, but he will not appear in the first film by the looks of it. During his conversation with Empire magazine, producer Andrew Macdonald said:
He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line.
This probably means that the Peaky Blinders star will appear in Nia DaCosta’s sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Considering how secretive Murphy can be, there is no telling how and when he might reprise his character as Jim in one of these movies.
28 Years Later will be in theatres on June 20.
