Lizzo earned a lot of appreciation and praise for how she kept fighting for herself as a Black woman who did not change herself to fit into society’s expectations of a woman’s appearance. However, all of that changed when her career was at its peak and three of her ex-backup dancers filed a lawsuit that leveled serious allegations. She has recently addressed the lawsuit in detail and fans are not very happy about what she has said.

Lizzo‘s third and fourth albums, Cuz I Love You and Special turned out to be her most acclaimed works as a musician. She embarked on The Special Tour in support of her namesake album and she was still touring when three of her backup dancers who were no longer on tour with her filed a lawsuit against her.

In the court documents obtained by Deadline, the three plaintiffs Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis, and Noelle Rodriguez alleged nine areas of misconduct in total related to their experience on The Special Tour. The three that stand out the most among these are alleged s*xual harassment, religious harassment, and body shaming.

The defendants of the lawsuit are the singer herself, her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., and her dance team captain Shirlene Quigley. It was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court after Williams and Davis were fired while Rodriguez resigned keeping in mind the poor treatment of her colleagues.

The plaintiffs were allegedly forced to touch nude dancers during a live sex show at a nude bar named Bananenbar in Amsterdam’s Red Light District. Additionally, Quigley was very vocal about her religious beliefs as a Christian and berated anyone who did not share the same religious views. Davis has also alleged that the songstress made “thinly veiled” comments about her weight while on tour.

Later, Page Six reported that at least six more people who were previously employed by the Hustlers actress came forward to make similar complaints against her. She was also sued by her former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels a month after the first lawsuit.

However, all seven causes of action against Lizzo and those regarding her tour manager Carlina Gugliotta have been dismissed in the lawsuit the defendants were facing from Daniels (via BBC). It has been stated that Daniels can only sue the touring and payroll companies, but not the singer as an individual.

Fans are calling out Lizzo among her claims that she has done “nothing wrong”

These lawsuits filed by her former employees not only affect the Juice singer’s reputation in the industry but also bring into question everything that she has ever stood for: from body inclusivity to resetting beauty standards. In a recent episode of Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast, she openly discussed some of the allegations and how they affected her.

I was literally living in my dream and then the tour ended and three ex-dancers just completely blindsided me with a lawsuit.

Elsewhere in the interview which is her first since she was sued last year, she said: “Let’s be clear, I did nothing wrong,” and that she and her team are “continuing to fight the other claims until they’re all dismissed. And not dropped, dismissed.”

However, fans have a very different take on all of this as they refuse to believe that the singer is completely innocent. Here is what some of them have to say:

In a statement (via Rolling Stone), the dancers’ attorney Ron Zambrano stated that he and his clients “stand by the claims in the lawsuit”. He stated that everything in the suit could be proved in court and accused Lizzo of lying to rationalize “a failure to take accountability on a podcast”. Until the final verdict on the lawsuit is announced, there is no telling whether or not the songstress is in the wrong.
