DC had its heyday with popular Batman films in the ’80s and ’90s, but since then, Marvel has surged ahead, leaving DC playing catch-up. The rivalry between the two studios is real, and fans are fiercely loyal to their preferred universes.
The exciting thing is that a few actors have been able to hop over and participate in both DC and MCU movies. These actors have taken on various roles, from leading characters to supporting roles and even brief cameos. 5 such actors may still appear in future MCU or DC movies.
Ben Affleck reprising his iconic role in DCU
When we hear the name Ben Affleck, we usually think of him as Batman. But let’s not forget that in the MCU, he actually began his journey in the superhero world as Daredevil. He portrayed Matt Murdock in 2003, a blind attorney who is also a vigilante who fights criminals. After a decade had passed, Affleck transitioned to the DCEU as Bruce Wayne, better known as Batman. His DC debut was in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. There he squared off against Henry Cavill’s Superman.
Since then, he has not only made numerous DC movie cameos, but he also reprised his Batman role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It doesn’t end there, though, since he is still going to return to his legendary role in the upcoming Aquaman 2.
Brian Tyree Henry is making a name for himself in the MCU
Brian Tyree Henry is the voice actor behind Miles Morales’ father in the acclaimed Spider-Verse film franchise from the MCU. In addition to this, many people were surprised when he joined the cast of DC’s Joker. He is a newcomer to the world of superheroes. But still, he has already managed to make a name for himself. But he continued on in his superhero career by taking on the role of Phastos in MCU’s Eternals. Fans can look forward to seeing more of Henry in upcoming MCU projects. He will reprise his role as Phastos.
Frank Grillo will be a part of James Gunn’s new DC Universe
Frank Grillo made his first appearance in the MCU as Brock Rumlow, also known as Crossbones, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He carried on playing the part in Captain America: Civil War. He even made a fleeting cameo in Avengers: Endgame. However, Grillo is switching studios even if he isn’t leaving the superhero genre. He won’t return to the MCU. He will instead take on the role of Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, a film that belongs to James Gunn’s new DC Universe.
JK Simmons’ return as the editor-in-chief
JK Simmons is a talented actor who has established himself in both the Marvel and DC superhero universes. He first entered the superhero world as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy where he portrayed the irritable editor-in-chief. But what really excites fans is that Simmons has returned to the MCU as J. Jonah Jameson. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, he portrayed a different version of the character, and in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he made yet another appearance. Fans may anticipate seeing more of him in upcoming MCU productions.
Return of Laurence Fishburne to MCU
A superb actor, Laurence Fishburne has appeared in both Marvel and DC movies. He began his career as a superhero by providing the Silver Surfer’s voice in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Fishburne then crossed over to DC, where he took on the role of Perry White, the fearless editor of the Daily Planet. He made his DCEU debut in Man of Steel and made an appearance again in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, Fishburne also made an appearance in the MCU. He took on the role of Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
