Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in DC Comics. He was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster and made his comic book debut in Action Comics #1 in 1938. Since then, the character has been adapted into numerous media, including novels, movies, TV shows, plays, video games, radio serials, and even radio.

Superman, whose human alias is Clark Kent, was born on the fictitious planet Krypton as Kal-El, and his parents sent him to Earth before their planet was destroyed. Superman uses his extraordinary powers to fight crime, as a symbol of hope. Kirk Alyn, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, and Henry Cavill are just a few of the actors who have played the character in live-action movies with the latest entry of David Cornswet, who will be playing the character in Superman: Legacy.

Given his other-worldly talents, Superman can battle and defeat some Marvel Cinematic Universe superheroes, while he can also contest and lose a fight with a select few of them. Let’s learn more:

1. Scarlet Witch

Scarlett Witch
Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlett Witch

Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU who has gone against Thanos and Doctor Strange. The Scarlet Witch can easily defeat Superman in a battle. She uses the universe’s darkest Magic and is capable of flight, manipulation, telekinesis, telepathy, and magic to travel, which makes her one of the superheroes in the MCU who can defeat Superman. Elizabeth Olsen plays the character of Scarlett Witch in the MCU.

2. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

After Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, the ex-Sorcerer Supreme, knows every spell in the book that he could use to defeat Superman by either confusing him or stunning him. As someone who knows a lot of spells, Strange could trap the Man of Steel in a mirror dimension or even in a new universe. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in the MCU.

3. Thor

Considered one of the characters who’s literally a god; it was reported via CBR that when Marvel and DC Universes collided in Kurt Busiek and George Perez’s JLA/Avengers in 2003, Superman managed to win against Thor using his own weapon and mentioned that the God of Thunder could be the only one competitor who can handle a fight against the Kryptonian.

Thor
Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Now, if we consider the chances of Thor being able to defeat Kal-El, the chances are high as Thor has access to a number of powers in the MCU, including the ability to launch lightning bolts, erect force fields, and control elements. Thor has some control over the weather and souls, and he can call on several kinds of creatures from the nine realms for help if necessary. Thor might defeat him considering the character possesses Asgardian magic. Actor  Chris Hemsworth plays Thor in the MCU.

4. Vision

Vision
Paul Bettany as Vision in the MCU

Vision is pretty much an android-copy of Superman who can fly, use lasers, and has superhuman strength along with having the ability to phase through objects that Superman does not have. Being one of the few characters in the MCU who is worthy enough to wield Thor’s mighty hammer, Mjolnir, Vision is not only a powerful character but also someone who can run circles around Clark Kent, which would simply mean that Superman could keep flying through him. Paul Bettany plays the character of Vision in the MCU.

5. Silver Surfer

Unpopular opinion, but Silver Surfer would win in a fight against Superman due to the great versatility of his powers. Superman’s only weakness is his dependency on solar energy, which Silver Surfer would easily manage to turn against him.

Silver Surfer is, on the other hand, immune to power absorption, and due to his physiology and Power Cosmic, it’s questionable whether Superman has anything to throw at him. The Silver Surfer is accustomed to matter manipulation and can manipulate his size and souls and elements of people.

MCU superheroes Superman can defeat

1. Wolverine

It has been a long-standing question between two brilliant and powerful characters and all the answers lead to only one result, which is that Superman can easily win a fight against Wolverine. Superman can beat Wolverine in ways he cannot heal from which is to trap him in an adamantium tank full of water or drag him to either the ocean’s depths or space.

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

It has been noted that Superman can also beat Logan without actually carrying out tedious tasks and simply building an adamantium cage around him at super-speed, as his adamantium skeleton acts as a boon and curse for the character and, if tied, it makes him very vulnerable. Actor Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine and is going to reprise his character for Deadpool 3.

2. Iron Man

Iron Man is no doubt one of the greatest and smartest characters in the MCU, but when fighting against Superman, the DC Superhero has a better chance of winning. The debate ends with the fact that, at the end of the day, Iron Man is made with technology and not natural abilities, whereas Superman was born the way he is and has developed superhuman powers on his own. Iron Man depends upon his super armor suit and without it, it’s difficult for him to beat Superman.

Tony Stark could definitely use something against Clark Kent in giving him neck-to-neck competition, but Kent possesses super speed which makes him move faster than light, the ability to fly and defy gravity, along with invulnerability and superhuman strength with the addition of being immune to all human diseases, which gives him an upper hand in the fight.

3. Namor The Sub Mariner

Namor, The Sub Mariner is also a powerful character in the MCU, but not strong enough to fight Superman even though he can fly, and has super-strength, speed, and agility, just like Kent. His powers peak when he breathes underwater, which is his best shot to win against Superman.

But if the fight takes place on land, Superman’s superhuman abilities, heat vision, speed, and super breath can make him win against Namor very easily.

4. Deadpool

One of the funniest and most entertaining characters in the MCU is Deadpool, and even though he cannot die, Superman can defeat the character in more than one way. Deadpool’s weapons would never actually work against Superman.

Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

Kal-El’s super strength and invulnerability would be enough to defeat the character, along with the ability to either freeze or use heat vision for his enemies.

5. Hawkeye

Hawkeye
Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye in The Avengers

Hawkeye, who is an exceptional fencer, acrobat, and marksman, is an interesting character because he does not possess any superhuman powers except he comes with a variety of trick arrows including an explosive, a giant Pym teaching arrow, an acid arrow, and a putty arrow. The character is someone who can be defeated by Superman in no time if fighting alone. However, it can be thought that if he is able to train accordingly, that could help him weaken Superman in a battle, but it seems like a far-fetched dream for Barton to defeat him. Actor Jeremy Renner plays Hawkeye a.k.a. Clint Barton in the MCU.
