This year is seeing James Cameron’s Titanic come under the spotlight once again. With the recent Oceangate Titan submersible incident, the film has once again come up in the center stage. Coincidently, this year also witnessed one of the cast members, Lew Palter’s death.

Although the news was made public only recently,  the veteran actor and long-time acting teacher and director reportedly had already passed away a month ago. Palter is mostly known for the portrayal of Isidor Straus, a U.S. Congressman on Titanic. But apart from that he also has other projects in his film career.

Titanic Actor Lew Palter Passed Away at 94

Recently it came to light that veteran Hollywood actor Lew Palter, best known for his role as Isidor Straus in Titanic passed away at the age of 94.  His daughter, Catherine Palter recently confirmed the news via The Hollywood Reporter. And according to the reports, the actor had already passed away a month ago on May 21st at his home in LA after battling lung cancer.

This news comes amid the recent Titan submersible incident which has brought the 1997 James Cameron-directed movie back into the spotlight. Five people died inside the submersible which was taking them near the real Titanic ship wreckage in the Pacific Ocean.

Unfortunately, all of them died under an implosion that occurred before they could reach their destination. As for Palter, he played the role of a U.S. congressman and owner of the Macy’s departmental store Isidor Straus.

A Brief Look at Lew Palter’s Film Career and The Salary For His Titanic Role

Lew Palter started off working mostly in theatrical and Broadway projects and even directed several of them. To name a few of these, he appeared in Madwoman of Chaillot, Enemy of the People, etc. Apart from that he has appeared in tons of tv programs such as the A-Team, the Brady Bunch, etc.

And his film projects include Titanic, First Monday in October, The Steagle, etc. In addition to acting, Palter was also a long-time acting teacher and director at CalArts from 1971-2013. For his best-known role which was in Titanic, the late actor probably received a salary amounting to thousands of dollars considering the lead actors earned around 2 million dollars. But there is no solid information about this.
