After the recent removal of one of the most popular 2000s anime, Black Lagoon, from Crunchyroll’s library, the hunt for a legal streaming platform to watch it online has become fierce. But no matter how high the demand for the anime is, none of the legal streaming platforms currently have Black Lagoon available in the US!
While Crunchyroll has completely removed the anime from its catalog, Apple TV subscribers in certain regions may still be able to watch Black Lagoon. It’s only been removed from Apple TV in the US. So what about US viewers who want to watch the anime? What options do they have?
How to Watch Black Lagoon Legally in the US
With no legal streaming platform available to watch Black Lagoon online, the only option remaining for US viewers is to buy the physical Blu-ray/DVD release from platforms like Amazon. Alternatively, you can always search other retailers and compare prices to find the cheapest option available.
The Blu-ray collection includes the complete Black Lagoon anime, featuring Seasons 1–2 and the Roberta’s Blood Trail OVA. While it may not be as convenient as streaming the series online hassle-free, one advantage of owning a physical copy is that you’ll always have access to the anime without worrying about it disappearing from a streaming service, as happened in this case.
In other words, you have more freedom to watch it whenever you want. But for first-time viewers, buying a whole DVD set for an anime sounds like a gamble, because what if you don’t end up enjoying the anime as much as you hoped? But now you may wonder, why did Black Lagoon get removed from everywhere all of a sudden?
Why Black Lagoon Was Removed from Crunchyroll

In the case of Crunchyroll, Black Lagoon has now been officially removed due to the expiration of its streaming license. In fact, it’s a pretty common occurrence across streaming platforms, as older titles are often forced to leave for similar reasons. But does that mean there’s a possibility of Black Lagoon returning to the platform?
If only the streaming rights have expired, then surely Crunchyroll can repurchase them, right? Well, that doesn’t happen too often, nor is it an easy process in the anime industry. Once a title gets removed, it usually doesn’t reappear on the platform anytime soon. However, the possibility cannot be entirely ruled out.
What Is Black Lagoon About?

Black Lagoon is a 2000s classic, mostly known for its rogue aesthetic, gritty atmosphere, sick action choreography, and, most importantly, the female lead, Revy. Well, honestly, every member of the cast is unlike most typical anime characters, as they are pretty mature for the plot. In fact, the story itself is pretty insane.
The narrative follows Rokuro “Rock” Okajima, an ordinary Japanese businessman who gets involved with a group of mercenaries. He didn’t wish for any of it, but now he’s part of the Lagoon Company. Who is he partnered with? One of the coolest female leads in all of anime, Revy.
Along with her, the team also includes the experienced leader, Dutch, and the tech expert Benny. While the series is best known for its intense gunfights and action, Black Lagoon also masterfully explores themes of morality quite well. The way the line between good & evil gradually blurs for Rock really makes for a gripping watch.
