Sigourney Weaver recalls having a real-life Ghostbuster moment

Sigourney Weaver, who ventured into the Ghostbuster franchise in 1984, as Dana Barrett, is one of the most admired characters in the franchise. It was reported that an actress who had appeared in science fiction movies had wanted to try out comedy movies and during a cover story for THR, creator Dan Aykroyd shared,

“She said, ‘You know, I really think that Dana Barrett should be possessed. She should be like that dog on the roof.’ And then she got on all fours on my coffee table, howling like a dog! Her idea of being possessed really personalized the larger concept — and that was included in the script. She was barely out of my office and we were writing it already.”

The actress was convincing of her character to the point where the audience admired her and recalling one such incident, she spoke about how a fireman managed to live his Ghostbuster fantasy. According to a quote on IMDB, Weaver said,

“I once had a fire in my apartment [after the movie], and the firemen came to put it out. One of them opened up my refrigerator and said, ‘Whoa, you better call the Ghostbusters.'”

This referred to her character’s paranormal encounter with a demonic dog-like creature inside her fridge in the movie.

“I was very surprised by the backlash. I can’t begin to interpret it, frankly. I thought it was very childish and cruel. I guess if you saw the movie as a kid you would feel possessive over it. But come on, things change. Women are at the table, and there are plenty of projects to go around.”

She continued to say that it was a good movie, adding that the actresses were spending in it and, of course, no one was taking away the original, noting that she quite be able to understand what happened except that it was unfortunate that the movie did not work.
