Xolo Maridueña is in the spotlight as he enters the DCU. He becomes the first Latino superhero. Maridueña made his screen debut with Parenthood, an NBC family comedy-drama series of 2012. As Xolo Maridueña prepares for the release of his big DC break Blue Beetle, interest in him is at an all-time high. The actor plays Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle in James Gunn’s revitalised DC Univers. As the film make its way to the silver screen, the 22-year-old sat down for an interview and shared his superhero journey. 

Maridueña talked about shooting on a green screen for a long time and how he got comfortable with his superhero suit. The actor further reflected on his physical transformation for Blue Beetle. The Cobra Kai star revealed he was 90 pounds with a wet T-shirt on before entering the DCU. He worked out to get ready to put on the spandex.

The 22-year-old confessed he gained roughly 130 pounds of muscle before adding another 25 to 30 pounds of muscle through weightlifting and martial arts. He said, “A lot of it was just eating the right amount.”

Xolo Maridueña starring Blue Beetle has been the talk of the town for months before its release. DC’s Blue Beetle is the first Latino-led superhero project.
