“A lot of people who are actually horrible at their jobs”: A Brutal Truth About ‘Landman’ Could Make Taylor Sheridan Rethink His Entire Logic With the Show
- Landman is one of the most acclaimed series on Paramount+ right now.
- A fan had no hesitation in calling out one important thing about all characters.
- Landman might get renewed for a second season soon if the actors' statements are anything to go by.
Landman is one of Taylor Sheridan’s newest ventures and it is safe to say that while the show has a huge viewership, fans are not necessarily impressed with the storyline and the character development. Every now and then, someone notices a pattern or a loophole which sparks a discussion about whether or not Sheridan could do better.
Given Yellowstone‘s success, there was no question of doubting the potential of a new show from the Hell or High Water scribe. However, that certainty is slowly turning to doubt as more and more people are beginning to notice how ridiculous some characters and storylines are in Landman. Recently, a fan highlighted a detail about the show that proves undeniably true upon closer inspection.
A Landman fan claims none of the characters are good at their respective jobs in the show
For those uninitiated, Landman follows Billy Bob Thornton in the role of Tommy Norris, an oil company fixer. It is set within the oil fields of Texas where big entities are trying to exploit the business for their own profit regardless of how it affects the environment and economy.
The show premiered in mid-November and has been facing criticism for one thing or another. To begin with, some professionals make mistakes that can only be labeled as careless or stupid which leads to their death. To make matters worse, Tommy’s relationship with his daughter Ainsley Norris (Michelle Randolph) is poorly portrayed in the show which has raised concerns about Sheridan’s writing.
Recently, a Redditor has pointed out that there is hardly any character in the show that understands the assignment. Tommy and Angela Norris’ (Ali Larter) upbringing of their children is coming off as sloppy. Then, there is Luis Medina (Emilio Rivera) and his team who seem to be not knowing the basics of plumbing. Other fans agree with this take while some have suggested that these critics should stop watching the series if they do not like how things are playing out.
Regardless of whether or not one is enjoying the show, it has to be admitted that the show has some shortcomings that cannot be overlooked, especially since it aims to paint an image of what is going down in the oilfields of Texas. Maybe Sheridan should up his game or there is a good chance that the viewers will lose interest in it altogether and not return for the second season if it happens.
What have Landman stars said about the show’s renewal for a second season?
Besides Thornton, Larter, and Randolph, the show also stars Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Bart Johnson, Andy Garcia, and many others. While the first season is yet to be completed, the filming for the second season is likely to begin soon this year according to Moore’s statement in a conversation at the American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 (via Deadline).
I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second which will be at the beginning of next year.
Last December, when Billy Bob Thornton was nominated for the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a TV Drama Series, he expressed hope that Paremount+ would greenlight a second season. He told The Hollywood Reporter:
The show has done very well, so it just stands to reason that they would do another one. But especially when you get a nomination for something — that draws attention to your show, so I think that helps. I can’t see why they wouldn’t.
Michelle Randolph has also weighed in on this in her recent interview with Newsweek in which she said, “I don’t think anyone wants to stop telling the story.” Hopefully, those who have to watch the story unfold will remain just as eager once this season has wrapped up.
Landman is available for streaming on Disney+.
