  • She made a very obvious mistake during the promotional tour of It Ends with Us.
  • The Gossip Girl star could have avoided that mistake if she had taken notes on Zendaya's tactics.

Blake Lively is in the spotlight amidst her legal battle with her It Ends with Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. As new revelations about the case continue to emerge from both sides, now seems like the perfect time to reflect on how the actress embraced ‘method-dressing’ during the movie’s press tour.

Lively is not the only person to embrace the method-dressing technique for a movie’s press tour. Another fashion icon and popular actress, Zendaya, has done the same for the press tours of her projects. In fact, the Spider-Man star has been employing this approach for years. However, there is one key aspect that sets these actresses apart their love for method dressing.

Blake Lively has been acing the realm of fashion since her Gossip Girl days. Her character Serena van der Woodsen certainly had good taste when it came to styling herself and serves as an inspiration for many to this day. Since then, the actress has hardly ever been seen in an outfit that could be labeled ‘bad’.

The most interesting part of this is probably that Lively is her own stylist, and yet every one of her looks has served. Whether it’s the red Versace catsuit she wore to the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere or the stunning Versace gown she donned at the 2022 Met Gala -leaving her husband, Ryan Reynolds, in awe – she has consistently delivered show-stopping looks.

The most recent example of her impeccable styling sense was seen last year when she went full-on florals for the promotional tour of It Ends with Us. Her choice of theme seemed fair considering that her character Lily Bloom is a florist. However, this is where the problem kicks in.

In the film, Lily is the victim of domestic violence and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband, Ryle Kincaid. So, was attracting attention to herself with her wardrobe choices the right thing to do, especially considering she was not even properly addressing the sensitive themes of the film?

Lively’s decision certainly backfired, if the backlash across the internet was anything to go by. That is not the only wardrobe mistake she is accused of. If we are really playing by Zendaya’s books here, it would have been best to dress as modestly as possible because the Dune star did the same while promoting Euphoria which addresses the sensitive topic of substance abuse.

Zendaya has often been praised for her top-notch fashion which is partly courtesy of her stylist Law Roach. Last year, she went complete cyborg in a shining silver outfit at the premiere of Dune: Part Two. Months later, she began showing up in full tennis whites and other tennis-related accessories (we remember the custom-designed Loewe tennis ball heels) for the promotion of her movie Challengers.

In an interview alongside her co-stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor for BBC The One Show, the Disney Channel alum said that being a shy person, fashion has been a tool or outlet for her to express herself. So, creating a persona through fashion allows her to live as that character for a day.

My stylist Law and I, we’ve been working together since we were 14, and we kind of did by accident back on Greatest Showman. Like, method dressing and kind of being inspired by the film and method dressing.

As exciting as method dressing can be, it’s a delicate balance for actors, as anything too over-the-top risks undermining the intended impact. Fortunately, she and her stylist have mastered the art of method dressing, knowing when to step back, as seen during the promotion of Euphoria, which premiered two years after The Greatest Showman.
