A Mindblowing ‘Severance’ Season 2 Theory Has Left Fans Restless but It Seems Too Credible to Ignore
- Severance Season 2 has raised suspicions about the credibility of one key character.
- Fans believe that this one character in Severance Season 2 premiere is not who she is claiming to be.
- Severance creator Dan Erickson has stated that none of the theories he has read so far are completely correct.
Severance has finally returned with its second season, sparking new theories about the events it introduced in the new episode. While fans wait for the second episode to release, they have come up with quite a few theories and some of them are too compelling to be ignored.
One of the most popular theories that fans have come up with about the show is that one member of Lumon’s Macrodata Refinement Division is no longer who they say they are, and could even be the villain of the series now. This member is none other than Helena Eagan.
Fans are suspicious about Helly R.’s identity in Severance Season 2’s premiere
For those in need of a quick recap, Severance Season 1 finale revealed that Helly R. (Britt Lower) is actually Helena Eagan, the daughter of Lumon’s CEO Jame Eagan (Michael Siberry), and the granddaughter of the company’s founder, Kier Eagan. Helena had signed herself up for the process of severance so that she could prove that the process was safe, beneficial, and harmless.
That obviously is not the case and after learning about her true identity as Helena, Helly tried to raise awareness about the toll severance takes on the ‘innies’ Now, Helly R.’s return in the Season 2 premiere has raised suspicions that she is actually Helena pretending to be Helly so that she can find out if any member of the team is planning to rebel against the company.
A Redditor pointed out there is a huge possibility that Helly is only pretending to be an Innie although she is actually Helena, and even made some references to prove their point. However, not everyone is on board with this theory as one Redditor claimed that they believe Helly R. is who she is.
There is no telling which of these people are right as of now, but upon close observation, the chances of Helly R. being Helena in this new episode are quite high. This is because of her odd behavior when Mark (Adam Scott) hugged her, fumbling with switching on her computer unlike her MDR co-workers, and her lying about her OTR experience. All of this seems to have one plausible explanation and it is that Helly is not who she is claiming to be.
Severance creator Dan Erickson claimed none of the fan theories he has read so far are absolutely correct
Every movie and show has its own fandom and with it come the fan theories. Ben Stiller’s Severance is no different, and luckily, creator Dan Erickson reads through those theories to see if there is something that the fans have got a hundred percent correct.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated that so far, he has not been able to find anything that good.
I would not say that I’ve seen anybody get it totally right. We are trying to lay down the seeds of where it’s ultimately going, and I do think that people notice that. ‘They said this in episode 2, and so I bet that’s going to pay off in this way,’ and sometimes that lines up a little bit with what we’re doing. But I don’t think that I’ve seen anything where I’m like, ‘Oh God, they got it. Time to leave the country and change my name.’
Erickson further said that he spends hours on Reddit, reading everyone’s fans’ theories and seeing fans’ art until it starts going to his head. He also admitted that some fan theories make him think that they should have done it in the show, but then he remembers that they are on track with the story they want to tell.
Severance is available to stream on Apple TV+.
