The Indian-born American actor Padma Lakshmi devoted her life to TV after a small stint in Hollywood. The 52-year-old model rose to fame with Bravo’s Top Chef host in 2006. The culinary show went on to earn her 12 Emmy nominations. The actor-turned-author has written cookbooks and has been associated with reputed names like The New York Times, Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar as a columnist.

Padma Lakshmi also produced and hosted Hulu’s Taste the Nation in 2020. She is not only a great TV personality but also an activist too. The Tangy Tart Hot and Sweet author is also an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) ambassador for women’s and immigrants’ rights. She was previously married to the reputed Indian-born-British-American novelist Salman Rushdie in 2004. 

Padma Lakshmi Slammed Trolls For Body Shaming

With a tall stature and good skin, Padma Lakshmi has one of the best bodies in Hollywood. The actor-turned-producer went on to cement her name in the TV world with her great hosting skills. She slammed the trolls for body shaming her. She responded to the media outlet Page Six exclusively on being body shamed during the TIME 100 Gala event. She said-

“I have b**bs, I have n**ples!” 

The actor has always been very vocal about being trolled or body-shamed. Padma Lakshmi even requested her fans and followers that they should accept a woman’s beauty. The Taste the Nation host said-

“I think we should just be a little more grown-up about it, and also just accept that a woman’s body is beautiful and … not totally perfect and stuff and filtered and everything.”

In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the TV personality was trolled for being braless in her kitchen while she was recording a cooking demonstration on social media. The actor revealed-

“(I got some comments last time that it was immoral for me to not wear a bra in my own kitchen during the quarantine. So those people should be happy to note that I’m wearing two today) But seriously, let’s not police women’s bodies in 2020 ok?”

On talking about being body-shamed, the 52- year old actor confessed how comfortable she feels in her body now in comparison to her twenties. Padma Lakshmi mentioned-

“Like, I feel more comfortable with my body in my 50s than I did in my 20s,” she explained, “even though I probably looked better in my 20s, but I feel better in my 50s. And I’m here to tell you that you can have a beautiful relationship with your body and sensuality and be a mother and be a lover and be a friend and have a multi-dimensional complex human being. You can have that and be that.”

The author and TV show host was present at the TIME 100 Galavent along with reputed names from Hollywood like Kim Kardashian, Gayle King, Ali Wong and Mia Farrow, and Amy Poehler.

Padma Lakshmi Won Multiple Critics Choice Awards For Her Travel And Food Show

Padma Lakshmi won a James Beard Media Award for her show Taste the Nation. The actor-turned-activist attended the James Beard Media Awards and the Critics Choice Real TV Awards in 2022. She won a James Beard Media Award for Visual Media — Long Form for her Hulu travel and food series Taste the Nation: Holiday Edition. She also won two awards for the Top Chef cast — Best Culinary Show and Best Competition Series. 

Padma Lakshmi posted on Instagram with a caption-

“I’m absolutely elated! I can’t believe I’m here. I have always kind of felt like an outsider in my life. Either I wasn’t Indian enough or American enough, but I always had a deep love for food,”

On talking about what led to the creation of the Taste the Nation, the model said –

“I wanted to give my platform to people who don’t often have that opportunity and let them tell their stories as they see fit. Because I believe that everybody has a story, every human being, you just have to be willing to listen,” she said.

Padma Lakshmi went on to pay tribute to her grandmother in her acceptance speech. She was accompanied by her mother at the Critics Choice Real TV Awards.
