Travis Scott’s Utopia concert repeats Astroworld’s fate
32-year-old Travis Scott, whose recently released album Utopia landed at the top spot of the Billboard 200 albums chart, had performed the songs for 60,000 people at Rome’s historic Circus Maximus, but towards the end of the event, the fate of Astroworld repeated itself as 60 people were known to be injured.
According to reports, things started to spiral after a suspected pepper spray incident was brought to light after it left almost 60 concertgoers in need of medical treatment. Among the 60 people who got injured was a 14-year-old who had attempted to enter the Circus Maximus to witness Scott live but fell from a height and was eventually hospitalized.
There has not been much that is known about what initiated the incident but the Italian authorities have reported that they are investigating the incident which stirred up controversy and ended up creating an ‘earthquake’ effect throughout the city of Rome.
The director of the Colosseum archeological park said that they will judge rock concertgoers negatively for such behavior and incident. Scott’s Astroworld festival became the talk of the town in November 2021 after the tragic death of several concertgoers.
Kanye ‘Ye’ West surprised the audience at Travis Scott’s Utopia global event
One of the things that surprised the 60,000 fans was the surprising appearance of Kanye West. Scott introduced the rapper by stating, “I produced Utopia for moments like this. It’s been a long journey before we could get here. I can say there’s been only one human being on this mother**king planet that has ever walked side by side with me through anything and every motherf**king thing.”
He continued, “There is no Utopia without Kanye West. There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West. There is no Rome without Kanye West. Make some noise for Ye.” Ye took the stage as the duo performed Praise God and Can’t Tell Me Nothing together.
Ye has been away from the spotlight ever since he received backlash for his anti-Semitic tweets online which resulted in him being dropped by brands like Adidas, Balenciaga fashion house, and his talent agency CAA. He was criticized by people across the world for having such opinions, but Ye has not addressed the backlash. The performance with Scott was Ye’s first performance since the controversy.
