Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is set to witness its theatrical release in December 2023. During an exclusive interview with a reputed media outlet, director James Wan spoke about the upcoming sequel of Aquaman. From dropping major spoilers about the upcoming superhero movie to addressing the controversies related to it- James Wan poured his heart out.

James Wan Gives Major Spoiler About Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

During an exclusive Zoom interview with Entertainment Weekly, filmmaker James Wan spoke about the speculated Batman cameo in Jason Momoa’s Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. According to an article published by The Hollywood Reporter in July, filmmaker James Wan had already seen three rounds of reshoots, and the most recent one was a separately shot footage with respect to the planned cameo of Batman in the Jason Momoa-led sequel.

James Wan clarified that his approach towards the Aquaman sequel was based on the stand-alone story of Arthur. He pointed out-

“The tricky thing early on was not knowing whether Aquaman would come out first or come out after [The Flash]. So, we just had to be prepared. At the end of the day, the best thing I would say about this movie is that it is not connected in any way to any of those films.”

The Conjuring director further mentioned-

That’s the bottom line. That’s a ‘no comment,’ right now … You’re going to have to wait for the movie to come out,”

According to the statement given by James Wan, it is quite understandable that Ben Affleck will probably not be seen in the upcoming sequel of Aquaman.

James Wan On Amber Heard’s Remark About Reducing Her Screen-Time

Aquaman director James Wan even spoke about Amber Heard’s association with his upcoming project. The Rum Diary star plays the character of Mera, the love interest of Arthur portrayed by Jason Momoa. In the interview, James Wan clarified that the entire plot was written from a stand-alone point of view. He stated-

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one was a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”

During the defamation trial against her ex-husband actor Johnny Depp, Amber Heard remarked that her part was tweaked in the upcoming sequel due to the negative public image. As reported by media outlet People, the actor said-

“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character — without giving any spoilers away — two characters fighting with one another, and they basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out.”
