Fellow Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have embarked on another sports bet with their latest million-dollar investment in the Alpine F1 team. Prior to this, the actors have already made a $2.5 million investment in Wrexham FC. Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian actor and entrepreneur, figurehead of the Deadpool movie franchise has a a sprawling list of financial commitments to his name. Ryan Reynolds and his friend Rob McElhenney, the creator of the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, had taken over the local soccer team, an ancient, lowly, success-starved outfit called Wrexham AFC.
Wrexham AFC had been founded in 1864, making it one of the oldest sports teams in the world. The duo were able to buy the team by agreeing to invest $1.2 million each in non-redeemable shares. When the sale was finalized in February 2021, it became a worldwide news.
Wrexham Association Football Club, which boasts the title of the third-oldest club in the world, gained revival when fellow actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney saw the struggles of the club as an amazing and unconventional investment opportunity.
After much contemplation and situational analysis, the two made an offer consisting of $2.5 million investment in the club’s players and facilities, and in addition a 25-year stadium lease in Wrexham to assure fans that the team would remain in their beloved town. They completed the $2.5 million takeover of Welsh soccer team Wrexham in November 2020.
Ryan Reynolds Buys Stake In Alpine Racing Team
Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made a latest investment to secure a significant 24 percent equity stake in Formula 1team Alpine. The official announcement about the deal was made by Alpine’s parent company Renault on Monday. Partners in the deal include fellow actors Rob McElhenney and Michael B. Jordan, along with private equity firm RedBird Capital Partners and Otro Capital.
After securing a massive investment of 200 million euros, the value of Alpine Racing reaches an impressive 706 million pounds – around 900 million dollars. Alpine chief executive Laurent Rossi said, “This association is an important step to enhance our performance at all levels.”
As per Renault’s announcement, the group, which includes RedBird Capital Partners, Otro Capital and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort Investments, will pay $218 million (€200 million) to acquire the stake in the racing team which is ranked fifth on the team standings for the 2023 F1 season. The deal will bring Alpine’s valuation to a staggering amount of $900 million.
The deal covers only the racing team, not the wider Alpine road car manufacturer. Alpine Racing SAS, the entity manufacturing F1 engines in France, is also excluded from the transaction and will remain entirely owned by Renault. The company emphasized how the investment will boost Alpine Racing’s growth plans and sporting ambitions in F1.
