Justin J. Thompson and Bob Persichetti to direct Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
According to reports by Deadline, filmmakers Justin J. Thompson and Bob Persichetti have been announced to direct Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The duo shared a statement with the publication and said,
The filmmakers added that they are all set to bring everything they’ve got for the audience who loves Spider-Verse. Bob Persichetti served as one of the directors on 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and served as an executive producer on Across the Spider-Verse.
Thompson served as the production designer on Into the Spider-Verse and one of the directors on Across the Spider-Verse.
Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller also expressed their excitement at reuniting with the filmmakers. They added both of their fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these movies, and the filmmakers’ passion for Miles’ journey shines through each frame of his last adventure.
The producers also noted that there is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin.
The publication also mentioned that the movie that was slated for release earlier this year had been delayed several times before it was removed from the slate. Now, it has been noted that the studios have no plan to release the movie in 2025.
Shameik Moore explains why he does not voice Earth-42 Miles G. Morales
Shameik Moore, who voices Miles Morales in Spider-Verse movies, shared why he does not voice his character’s variant, Miles G. Morales/Prowler, during a panel at Fan Expo San Francisco 2024. He stated via ScreenRant,
Jharrel Jerome voices the Earth-42 version of Miles Morales in the movie, and he lives in an alternate reality where his father, Jeff, was killed instead of his uncle, Aaron. He never becomes Spider-Man, but instead, Jereome’s Miles becomes Prowler, who works alongside his uncle.
Moore clarified that just like how Jake Johnson, Chris Pine, Jack Quaid, Josh Keaton, and more have voiced Peter Parker, in a very similar way he and Jerome voice Miles Morales. Understandably, two different people are voicing two variants because the makers must have believed that they wanted to set these characters apart.
Earth-42 variant does not become a hero and gives in to the negative influence of Uncle Aaron, unlike how Moore’s Miles Morales does. In his conversation with ScreenRant, Jerome was asked about any update on the movie, to which he said he’s as dark as the audience, but he’s excited to head back to doing what he loves.
The actor mentioned that he’s excited to see what the makers have in store for his character, adding that it was indeed a badass twist to the last one. The plot for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has been kept under wraps, but it has been known that the studios are planning to release the movie in 2026.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse are available to stream on Netflix.
