Alec Baldwin “Discharged” Prop Gun on ‘Rust’ Set, Killing The Cinematographer & Injuring Director
It was confirmed by The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department that Alec Baldwin has “discharged” the prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while injuring director Joe Souza on the set of Rust in New Mexico.
Alec Baldwin Currently Questioned By Investigators
Hutchins, aged 42, died after being taken to the hospital this afternoon while Souza, 48, is still under intensive care in a hospital.
“Mr. Baldwin was questioned by investigators and released,” a Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department official told Deadline this evening. “No arrests or charges have been filed.”

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set of the western “Rust”, October 21, 2021, when an 911 caller reported a shooting on the set.
It was confirmed that two people were shot on the set of Rust. The incident happened when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin.
Ms. Hutchins was rushed to the hospital in a helicopter where she was pronounced dead. The investigation for the incident remains open and active, as of now. However, no charges have been filed yet.

The movie, Rust, has been indefinitely halted at the moment. Even the Cinematographers Guild expressed shock and remorse over the incident:
“We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set,” said the Cinematographers Guild’s National President, John Lindley.
“The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event,” added the guild executives.
“This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”
