Alec Baldwin Faces New Lawsuit – 3 New Members of ‘Rust’ Crew Claim Countless Safety Shortcuts Like Using ‘Operable Firearms’ Instead of Prop Guns Led To Unnecessary Death
As one may say, Alec Baldwin has recently made headlines, not for good reasons but rather to deal with legal issues. This is in regard to the shooting incident that happened on the Rust set on October 21, 2021, while they were filming Rust, more than a year ago. A bullet fired from a vintage revolver that Baldwin was practicing drawing on set struck both Joel Souza and Halyna Hutchins.
According to recent reports, three former crew members who claim to have witnessed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins being shot dead on the Rust set have filed a lawsuit on Monday accusing Alec Baldwin and the film productions of negligence.
Those suing the American actor and the Rust production include Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin, and Reese Price, who claim to have worked as the dolly operator, set costume artist, and key grip, respectively.
Furthermore, they added that they were three of the seven people present in the church on the day of the shooting.
The cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally wounded in the chest in October 2021 by a Colt.45 revolver live round fired by the defendant Alexander R. Baldwin III. The film’s director, Joel Souza, was also hurt during the live round.
Three Rust cast members are suing Alec Baldwin for blast injuries
Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin, and Reese Price are the plaintiffs in the most recent lawsuit. The lawsuit claims that all three of them sustained “blast injuries” because of the shot’s audible blast while standing close to Alec Baldwin at the time.
The complaint states that Halyna Hutchins was knocked to the ground in front of Curtin. The lawsuit claims that she “watched in horror as Hutchins grabbed at her abdomen. Plaintiff Curtin put her hands on Hutchins’ stomach, trying to find the source of Hutchins’ pain and figure out what was going on.”
Baldwin is held liable for failing to pay attention during weapons training, failing to check that the gun was not loaded with live ammunition, and firing the round, according to the lawsuit.
However, in one of those lawsuits, Baldwin’s attorneys submitted a counterclaim claiming that he was not responsible for the shooting and that four other parties were.
Rust Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed Attends Court for the First Time in a Manslaughter Case
On February 24, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer who loaded Alec Baldwin’s gun on the Rust set, appeared in court for the first time in connection with her involuntary manslaughter case.
At the Google Meet-conducted hearing, Gutierrez Reed did not enter a plea. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer of the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe, New Mexico, advised her of her legal rights and provided her with release guidelines.
District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies argued during the brief hearing that Gutierrez Reed shouldn’t be permitted to own a gun while the case is pending because of the claim that she engaged in “sloppy mishandling of firearms.” Though, the judge gave her permission to keep a gun at home.
Gutierrez Reed did not appear on camera during the hearing that was broadcast on YouTube.
Alec Baldwin continues to insist that he is innocent and that the mistake was honest. The Pearl Harbor actor has been charged by the district attorney’s office with acting recklessly while the movie was being filmed. Sources claim that he was allegedly talking on the phone when he fired the shot.
Baldwin got sidetracked while learning how to use the prop gun, according to Robert Shilling, a special investigator for the district attorney’s office.
