Alec Baldwin to Appear Before Court For Fatally Shooting Rust Cinematographer While Filming
A lot has happened since the death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust. The film’s production team, including star Alec Baldwin, tried to reach an agreement about the charges set against them by Hutchins’ husband. However, the Santa Fe District attorney (DA) is not letting the case die down so easily without any proper charges and trials. After carefully assessing the incident, the D.A. has announced who is rightful to be blamed and punished for the same. The formal filing of the charges is said to take place by the end of this month.
Alec Baldwin Will Be Facing Criminal Charges Soon
It has been 16 months since the 2021 shooting accident on the set of Rust happened in New Mexico, USA. An extremely careless situation resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Suez during the filming. Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies carried out a careful assessment of the incident.
And only recently she announced her decision. On 19th January, Altweis shared,
“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust film crew,”
Although Alec Baldwin, who held the fatal gun has denied ever pulling the trigger, he is still tightly bound by the charges. According to the D.A. office, the charges are set to be on two counts. And both if they are considered “fourth-degree felonies”. One of the charges is more formally “involuntary manslaughter” and in this particular case includes firearm enhancement. Therefore the punishment will be extended up to 5 years of jail time and a 5000 dollar fine. Moreover, Andrea Reeb assigned as the prosecutor of the case directly pointed out the careless handling of the gun by Alec Baldwin, Hannah Guttierez-Reed, and David Halls.
Furthermore, Reeb shared that the evidence clearly showed “criminal disregard” on the set. With that, it is clear that Baldwin is tightly entangled in the case and has no way of escaping the charges as far as it is concerned. The charges will be filed officially by the end of the month.
How Did the Actor Respond to The Case?
The fatal incident occurred in October 2021. After a few months, Alec Baldwin denied ever pulling the trigger in an interview with Stephanopoulos. He also added that he had been told before the scene, that the firearm used was a cold gun, by the director Dave Halls.
Moreover, others in the set also asserted the same according to Baldwin. And in a Good Morning America interview, he even shared how it was unlikely for him to be charged with any criminal offense. But things are not going in his way at the present.
