Alejandro D. Iñárritu’s New Tom Cruise Movie Gets Massive Update as Mission Impossible Star Just Might Land His First Oscar
- Tom Cruise has starred in plenty of action movies and seems to be making a genre switch.
- Cruise's upcoming movie with Alejandro G. Iñárritu has recently got an update regarding its filming.
- This is going to be Cruise's first project with Warner Bros. since they inked the long-term deal earlier this year.
Tom Cruise is one of the Hollywood A-listers whose charisma and hard work have culminated in projects that have stood the test of time. Although most of his movies entail him doing deadly stunts, there is also just the right amount of drama to keep the audience seated.
Cruise might go a different route if his involvement in Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s next project is anything to go by. In fact, there is a new update regarding their collaboration, which suggests that the Rain Man actor is going to be one step closer to bagging an Academy Award.
Tom Cruise’s Movie with Alejandro G. Iñárritu Gets a Filming Window
Tom Cruise has been in the entertainment business since he was 18 and has come a long way from the young man who had a small part in a movie titled Endless Love. He attained superstar status in 1986 when he starred in Top Gun, a film that would get a sequel three decades later.
As much as the audience loves some action, it will be quite refreshing to see Cruise in a movie by the auteur Alejandro González Iñárritu. After all, it is not every day that the filmmaker chooses to make an English film, considering the last one he made was 2015’s The Revenant.
Variety has recently reported that the filming of Cruise and Iñárritu’s movie is likely to begin next month in the U.K. This filming window suggests that the star is almost done shooting the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which is set to be released in March next year.
After the few dramas that he appeared in early on in his career, he has predominantly done action movies, and the surprising part is that the audience is never bored of them. A prime example of this is the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible film series. It performed pretty well despite having competition with movies like Oppenheimer and Barbie last year since the release dates were quite close.
Everything We Know About Tom Cruise and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Upcoming Movie
This is going to be Cruise’s first Warner Bros. project in a decade after he starred in Edge of Tomorrow alongside Emily Blunt in 2014. Earlier this year, he had signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to develop and produce original and franchise films. Besides Cruise, the film will also star Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde.
The official title of this movie has not been revealed, and the plot details have also been kept in wraps so far. However, Variety has reported that Iñárritu is directing and producing the movie from a screenplay he has co-written alongside Sabina Berman and Birdman co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris.
