‘Alien: Romulus’ Director Ensured One Thing While Casting Actors For the Movie and Star Wars Fans Will Wholeheartedly Agree With His Strategy
Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Álvarez has always been known for creating suspenseful scenarios and is all set to bring forth Alien: Romulus. With movies and shows like Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe, and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, he has always made the fans sweat on their seat. His love for the genre has made him come up with another masterpiece which is scheduled to release this year.
The Evil Dead director did not want to leave any stone untouched with the seventh installment of the Alien franchise. He didn’t even take a chance with the casting and did a special session to ensure that the actors were actually invested.
Fede Álvarez Arranged A Special Q&A Session Before Confirming The Cast Of His Upcoming Movie
The 46-year-old filmmaker is going to move his fans this year with another installment of the Alien franchise. Alien: Romulus, the latest installment of the franchise, stars Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, and David Jonsson among others.
What’s important to note about the movie is the process of casting as done by Álvarez himself. For this particular movie, the director has questioned every actor’s knowledge about the franchise before taking him/her in. According to Film Updates on X, Álvarez said:
I would ask actors in their mid-20s what movies they’d seen from the franchise.
Álvarez wanted to make sure that the actors had some amount of knowledge about the franchise so that they could genuinely understand the storyline of the movie. This is perhaps a safe strategy to have when casting new actors in a franchise as big as this one.
Fans of the Star Wars Franchise Would Approve of Fede Álvarez’s Casting Strategy for Alien: Romulus
Álvarez’s casting strategy will definitely impress Star Wars fans. The director ensured that all the actors that were going to be cast in the seventh installment of the Alien franchise had adequate knowledge about the franchise. The Star Wars fans will for sure agree to this technique after a blunder caused by one of The Acolyte stars.
Star Wars franchise fans lashed at actor Charlie Barnett for one of his incorrect comments. Barnett confused the fans with his incorrect statement about a scene from Star Wars: A New Hope. During a press tour, the 36-year-old actor commented that it was Anakin Skywalker who destroyed the Death Star which upset the die-hard fans of the franchise.
In Star Wars: A New Hope, it was Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker who destroyed the superweapon with the help of the Rebel Alliance. Barnett however confused Hamill with David Prowse’s Anakin, despite claiming that he is a big fan of the franchise. No doubt this is a big reason why fans will wholeheartedly agree with Álvarez’s casting strategy.
Alien: Romulus is set to take over the theatres on August 16 and The Acolyte is available for streaming on Disney+.
