All DC Animated Universe Movies Coming This Year, Ranked by How Excited You Should Be
DCU is awakening to a new dawn with James Gunn at the helm. After making the MCU reach new milestones with the successful Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, DCU has entrusted Gunn with revamping its slate of movies and shows. With Superman set to release next year and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow to follow soon after, Gunn is also working towards an exciting set of animated movies that will appeal to younger and older audiences alike.
Diversity of genres and formats is key to attracting a wider fanbase, and Gunn knows how to keep his viewers hooked. Even previously, DC had a variety of animated projects featuring all its central heroes. Here’s a rundown of every DC animated movie to be released this year as part of Gunn’s efforts to reboot the universe. Though two of the movies don’t have a release date yet, we are excited for them all the same.
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths
The set of animated movies will be released in three parts. The first part came out in January with the others set to follow soon after. Justice League: Crisis of Infinite Earths unravels the threat to DC’s multiverse as multiple heroes come to the rescue after Anti-Monitor messes with the stability of the universe. CW’s past movies and shows have taken inspiration from Crisis On Infinite Earths, but the animated movies will particularly focus on the characters joining forces to protect the multiverse. Based on the eponymous comic, this is the first project that will animate the story in a full-fledged movie of its own. On the whole, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths will be eleventh in the Tomorrowverse timeline.

The trailer for Part Two was released last week, and the movie will be released on April 23, 2024. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths is available on Prime Video and Apple TV.
Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios
DC’s very own what-if tale, Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios reimagines the story of how Batman came to be. Instead of Bruce Wayne, it features Yohualli Coatl who goes on to become the caped superhero. His parents are murdered by the Spanish Conquistadors, leaving him to fend for himself. Rather than set in a modern world with high-tech advancements, Coatl’s story takes place in an ancient, Meso-American time.
Juan Jose Meza-Leon is working as director and writer on the project. Given its unique theme and character, the movie is one of the most exciting projects by DC. Being a standalone project, Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios recently released images as part of its first look promotion. It also features a reimagined Joker as the villain of the story.

DC Watchmen
Adapted from one of the most famous graphic novels of all time, Watchmen will narrate the iconic story that has fans hooked since the beginning. San Diego Comic-Con witnessed the announcement of the animated movie. While the story has been adapted by Zack Snyder and for an HBO series in the past, the upcoming animated movie will be able to replicate the story better and give a fresh perspective on the dark side of superhero movies. The graphic novel is originally penned by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons.
The story gives us a glimpse into a world where superheroes are illegal and sidelined by society. A vigilante rises to destroy all superheroes and civilians. The story’s dark tone was appreciated when DC was having a hard time finding solid ground for its projects. While we know the movie will be released direct to stream, a release date has not been announced yet.
