All Upcoming Movies of Keanu Reeves That We’re Looking Forward To
Keanu Reeves became a sensation on the internet last year. Everywhere you’d look, you’d see his face. He starred in multiple movies in 2019, and garnered a lot of love from the fans. One could argue that 2019 was the biggest year of his career, but we’d say that his biggest years are yet to arrive. With the kind of films that the “breathtaking” star is set to appear in, we’re going to see all of his fans unite to send even more love towards him. So, here are all the upcoming movies featuring Keanu Reeves, that you should be looking forward to:
The Matrix 4
Reeves has recently been busy with the production of The Matrix 4 in Berlin. Director Lana Wachowski and the rest of the cast have been filming the movie since the first quarter of 2020. Unfortunately, things had to he halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and The Matrix 4 was ultimately pushed by 7 months. But now, it is set to arrive on December 22, 2021. The plot of the film is a bit of a mystery as we don’t know how Neo, or even Trinity are supposed to return. But we reckon that there’s some sort of time travel involved in the story. Besides Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, a bunch of familiar new actors have been added to the project. We’re going to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick, and many other familiar faces in the film.
John Wick: Chapter 4
Right after Reeves is done with The Matrix 4, he will start with the filming of John Wick: Chapter 4. Originally, The Matrix 4 and John Wick Chapter 4 were supposed to face off with each other on May 21, 2021. But, COVID-19 delayed the production of The Matrix 4, and in turn, John Wick: Chapter 4 got delayed as well. Now it is set to arrive on May 27, 2022. It has been theorized that the John Wick franchise is about the five stages of grief. We’ve already seen Wick go through the denial, anger and bargaining stages. And now, he will express a stage of depression.
John Wick: Chapter 5
Because Chapter 4 got pushed by a whole year, Lionsgate is now going to film Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 back to back. That will sort of give the franchise a two-parter ending, which has become the regular norm of Hollywood these days. So, we should expect John Wick: Chapter 5 to arrive in May 2023 (but don’t quote me on that). A while back, John Wick creator and screenwriter Derek Kolstad told Comicbook.com that Chapter 5 is the film where he’d like to end things. And soon after that, Lionsgate announced the film with franchise director, Chad Stahelski continuing in the director’s chair. This is the film where Wick will find acceptance and come to terms with his death, or the fact that he’d remain a hitman until he dies.
Constantine 2
For the last year or so, we’ve been hearing rumors about a potential Constantine sequel being in works with Keanu Reeves. And now, those rumors have seemingly been turned into reality as Peter Stormare, the actor who played Lucifer in 2005’s Constantine, has posted couple of new images on Instagram. Take a look at one of the images, which has been captioned, “Sequel In The Works”:
So clearly, Warner Bros. is giving Constantine another go as they are taking another huge step into the mystical worlds of DC. First, it is going to be Black Adam that will explore a bit of magic with Adam and Doctor Fate. Then Justice League Dark and Constantine 2 will continue with the magical elements. It’d be interesting to see if the likes of Rachel Weisz and Shia LaBeouf will return in the Constantine sequel alongside Keanu Reeves and Peter Stormare. As for when the movie might arrive, we think that 2023 would be the perfect year for it.
Rally Car
For a long while, Keanu Reeves has been attached to a film called Rally Car. The movie is supposed to be directed by Olivier Megaton, who also directed Transporter 3 and Taken 2. In the film, Keanu Reeves is set to play an American NASCAR driver who will redeem his career by participating in an international Rally Car race across China. Unfortunately, this particular project has been stuck in the pre-production stage for over 3 years now, so we don’t know if it will start production any time soon. Given that Reeves will be busy with the two John Wick movies and possibly even Constantine 2 in 2021, we don’t think that Rally Car might begin filming until 2022. But having said that, it will surely be interesting to watch Keanu Reeves play a NASCAR racer.
Rumored Projects
Past Midnight is Netflix’s upcoming Superhero project, which was announced back in 2018. It will be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, and Dope director Rick Famuyiwa is attached to the film. It was rumored that Reeves will play a superhero in this movie. But last year, Joe Russo stated that the movie is still in its formative stage.
Reeves’ name is also attached to an action thriller miniseries called Rain. But nothing has come out of it yet. Since last year, people have been speculating that Reeves might also star in an MCU project soon enough because Kevin Feige stated that he talks to the John Wick star about every new role. For now, Reeves’ name is being attached with MCU’s Ghost Rider. So, let’s wait and see how that turns out.
