Payne was seen attending the concert of his former bandmate Niall Horan in Argentina on October 2, 2024. After that, he had been staying with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy at the hotel, but she left for the US halfway through the stay. Although there has not been any confirmation about the reason for his death, certain images have sparked a number of speculations among the fans.

According to BBC, Liam Payne died after falling from the third floor of his hotel. The police collected his body after they got a call from the emergency staff of the hotel on Wednesday night. The emergency medical services director Alberto Crescenti stated that Payne suffered “serious injuries,” and further details can be provided after the autopsy report comes out.
Crescenti didn’t give any clarification on the circumstances behind the singer’s fall from the third floor. However, some images that are allegedly taken from Payne’s hotel room have been surfacing online. The images were allegedly taken moments before his death.
The photos show a broken TV screen, stuff scattered everywhere in the room, candles, matches, aluminum foil, and a white powdery substance that is speculated to be narcotics.

The communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, Pablo Policicchio, told The Associated Press that Payne “had jumped from the balcony of his room.” He further added that the police rushed to the hotel after getting an emergency call about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
The Associated Press also reported that the hotel manager called 911 and said,
A guest who is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol… He’s destroying the entire room, and, well, we need you to send someone, please.
Experts are currently investigating the case, whether it was an accident or a suicide. However, the statements, alleged evidence, and images obtained so far paint a picture that Payne was not stable before the incident, and this can mean a lot of things.
Liam Payne Has Been Struggling With Addiction
Directioners and Liam Payne fans are well aware of the singer’s struggle with alcoholism since the early days of his career. In an interview on Steven Bartlett’s The Diary Of A CEO podcast in 2021, Payne revealed how serious his struggle with addiction was. Talking about his “pills and booze phase,” he said,
My face was 10 times bigger than it is now. The problem was, the best way to secure us was to lock us in a room, and what is in the room? A minibar.
The singer reasoned the restrictive nature of his fame at a young age and his repetitive lifestyle to be the reason for being frustrated at the time, which led to alcoholism and substance addiction.
Talking about frustration, Payne also revealed having suicidal thoughts at times. He said, “Yeah, there is definitely some stuff I have never spoken about to do with it. It was really, really severe.” He further mentioned how he worried about hitting the lowest phase of his life.
I had a few of them. I was worried how far my rock bottom was going to be. Where’s rock bottom for me? And you would never have seen it. I’m very good at hiding it. No one would have ever seen it.
Payne also mentioned his fight with addiction and how he was trying to be sober in his July 2023 YouTube video. However, the singer was seen partying many times afterward.
