Amber Heard Believed Social Media is “Never True”, Called It “Unfair” for Demonizing Her During Johnny Depp Trial
The character of Mera will be played by actress Amber Heard in Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be back on-screen soon. However, the actress has been in the news recently due to her controversial defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The actress warns viewers not to believe everything they read or see online and explains the treatment she endured during the trial.
After hearing testimonies from both sides for six weeks in June 2022, the jury at the Virginia County Court found in that Heard was liable for defaming Johnny Depp. The actor filed a $50 million lawsuit against ex-wife after she identifed herself in a Washington Post article as a public figure representing domestic abuse. Although the op-ed did not specifically name Depp, the actor said his ex-wife meant to discredit him since he failed to land a few significant projects right after the op-ed was published.
Amber Heard says social media demonized her during the six-week trial
Back in 2022, a couple of weeks after the verdict on the defamation between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp was announced, the actress appeared on NBC for an interview with Savannah Guthrie and pointed out that the social media were not fair to her. The interview aired in two parts where the actress reflected on her situation.
She said that the social media backlash she faced during the six-week trial was not fair. She explained,
“Even for somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still can’t tell me — look me in the eye and tell me — that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”
Amber Heard said that she does not care what one thinks about her or what judgments they want to make about what has happened between the two of them in the privacy of her home, her marriage behind closed doors, noting that she does not presume the average person should know these things so she doesn’t take the backlash personally.
Amber Heard’s comments about social media demonizing her while her trial was ongoing come after the fact that social media users and TikTok users used their platforms to accuse her of lying during testimony and mocked her in several ways.
Amber Heard says things on social media are ‘never true’
During an interview with News Talk back in 2014 the host asked her if she reads about herself on any social media platform, especially after knowing that a lot of people have an opinion about her to which Amber Heard said,
“ I don’t even know how to read something on Twitter. I don’t have Twitter. I don’t have Facebook, I don’t have Instagram. I don’t have the ability to even engage in that conversation, nor do I want to. I don’t really participate. “
The host went on to ask her if she just avoids the stuff written about her on social media, to which Heard at the time replied,
“Yeah, it’s never true. What I hear told back to me by my friends is always a joke, none of it is true. And it’s somehow so far from being anything true that it makes it not even worth engaging in. People will absolutely say whatever they want and there’s just absolutely no integrity in the gossip industry, there’s absolutely no truth. It is based on popular salacious low brow demeaning gossip and there’s nothing less fulfilling than that.”
She also added that it surely is shocking to be at the other end of the gossip, adding that she never really assumed any of it was true and she is not disheartened or shocked by the fact that she is involved and it continues to be untrue.

Amber Heard says she will stick to every word of her testimony against Johnny Depp
After a grilling interview with Savannah Guthrie, the actress mentioned
“To my dying day, I will stand by every word of my testimony. I’ve made a lot of mistakes. A lot of mistakes. But I’ve always told the truth.”
The actress went on to say that she does not blame the jury. In fact, she added that she understands because Johnny Depp is a beloved character and people feel they know him, noting he is a fantastic actor.
Amber Heard, towards the end of the trial, won one counterclaim out of three with jurors giving her $ 2 million in compensatory damages as they found Depp liable to defame the actress through his lawyer, Adam Waldman.
