The Boys Star Jack Quaid, All Prepared To Play Superman
The star of My Adventures with Superman shared in an exclusive interview with the People that growing up he was a huge superheroes fan and this childhood affinity set him up to one day play the Man of Steel. Quaid, 31 told, “I was Super J or Super Jack,” describing how as a child, he took a Batman cape, drew the iconic Superman triangle on a t-shirt, and put a “J” instead of the usual “S.”
Quaid proclaimed himself as a “gigantic superhero nerd,” and has finally got an opportunity to play the Man of Steel in the animated show My Adventures with Superman, where Quaid voices a young Clark Kent, an aspiring reporter looking for his big break at The Daily Planet when his powers emerge.
Quaid then shared, “I’ve always loved superheroes, and the fact that I’ve gotten to play in the Superman world, it’s just been an incredible honor,” as the role allowed Quaid to flex his acting chops. Citing the reasons to avoid revisiting the previous portrayals of Superman Quaid said,
“I wanted to find my own take,” he adds. “Everyone who’s been Superman has been absolutely wonderful, but this show had such a very specific tone, and I wanted to make sure this version of Superman really fit in this world.” One of the best aspects of My Adventures with Superman is the relationship between Clark and Lois Lane evolves.
Jack Quaid on Growing Up in Hollywood
The star of My Adventures with Superman talked to PEOPLE about his childhood and growing years. Being the child of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, Jack Quaid spent a lot of time on the film’s sets. Describing his special childhood and parents, Quaid shared,
“I grew up with friends who also had parents in the industry, so it didn’t really feel different. But then you grow up, and you realize that’s a pretty unique thing, that not one but two of your parents are actors. You don’t realize that things are slightly abnormal until later.”
He made his onscreen debut in 2012’s The Hunger Games, where he played Marvel, a competitive tribute from wealthy District 1. Over the years the actor has made quite a name for himself in the industry and gained immense popularity and success starring in Prime Video’s The Boys, as affable boyfriend-turned-renegade supe Hughie Campbell.
Quaid then expressed his gratitude towards his parents for a childhood that allowed him to explore his passions as a superhero nerd and embrace Star Trek and Superman. He said, “I will thank them for that until the day I die,” “Now I get to actually live in these worlds, and that’s just been such a joy.” My Adventures with Superman airs on Thursdays on Adult Swim and Fridays on Max.
