‘And They Shall Call You Vivian Jenna Wilson’: Court Grants Elon Musk’s Daughter’s Name Change Request

The 18-year-old daughter of Elon Musk had requested to legally get her name and gender changed. And on Wednesday, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge granted the teen’s request, according to court records obtained by PEOPLE. Her legal name is Vivian Jenna Wilson now (Her new last name is the maiden name of her mother, Justine Wilson).

Vivian’s gender as a female was also recognized by the judge and a new birth certificate to reflect the changes has been issued.

Justine Musk (Vivian’s mother) is a 49-year-old Canadian author who had tied the knot with Elon Musk, currently 50 years old, in 2000 and separated in 2008. They had 5 children and their first child had tragically died when he was only 10 weeks old from sudden infant death syndrome in 2002.

Vivian had filed the original petition on April 18 shortly after her 18th birthday. She had included a short sentence explaining her request for the changes:

“Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form“.

Elon Musk or Justine, neither of the two have commented or said anything publicly about the ruling. But the author had shared the following tweet earlier this week which contained an excerpt from a family chat she claimed to have had with one of her 18-year-old. It is unspecified if she meant Vivian or her twin brother but the context does suggest that the tweet is about the former sibling.
