Andrew Garfield Would Like To Play Spider-Man Against Tom Hardy’s Venom; Says, “That’s A Cool Idea”
Andrew Garfield says he’d have an interest in reprising his role as Spider-Man and fighting off Tom Hardy’s Venom:
Andrew James Abraham Garfield says he’d have an interest in reprising his role as Spider-Man and squaring off against Tom Hardy’s Venom. James Abraham Garfield has only had 1 additional standalone feature since his first debut in the superb Spider-Man in 2012, following the completion of painter Maguire’s Spider-Man trio, with the superb Spider-Man a pair of. Garfield’s second excursion was ultimately panned by fans and reviewers, and a third film never materialized. However, with the recent publication of Spider-Man: No Means Home and its introduction of the multiverse, Garfield’s Spider-Man returns. Garfield’s look within the film, opposite Maguire and Tom The Netherlands, was an immediate hit with fans, with several hard-to-please for a 3rd entry in the superb Spider-Man franchise. No Way Home concludes with James Abraham Garfield and Maguire’s characters returning to their separate realms, but the film’s mid-credits sequence teases an enormous crossover within the MCU. Eddie Brock/Venom makes a quick visit to a Mexican bar before being zapped back to his home dimension. However, a clump of the alien symbiote is left behind, creating a means for future Spider-Man movies.
Garfield’s In a recent interview with Heroic Hollywood on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast:
In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast (via Heroic Hollywood), Garfield not only says he’s “absolutely open” to reprising his role as Spider-Man if the narrative is right, but he also displays an interest in squaring off against Tom Hardy’s Venom. If Garfield were to return, the film would have to be “something extremely unique, very exceptional, and of service to the viewer and the character.” However, when asked if he’d like to face off against Venom, the actor had a short and concise response:
“That’s a cool idea.”
With growing excitement about seeing Garfield reprise his role as Spider-Man in a standalone film and the announcement that Venom now exists in the MCU at the conclusion of No Way Home, it appears like such a crossover may happen. In the same podcast interview, Garfield said of a possible return to Spider-Man, “I believe there’s something fun, original, strange, and surprising to be done.” Including Hardy’s darkly hilarious and a little bizarre version of Venom in a Garfield film might be exactly the “playful and distinctive” concept that the actor is looking for.
While the Venom tease at the conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home suggests that Holland’s Spider-Man may ultimately face battle against the character:
While the Venom tease at the conclusion of the film suggests that Holland’s Spider-Man may ultimately face up against the character, Holland’s future as Spider-Man remains uncertain, and it’s very conceivable that he may not return for another adventure as Peter Parker. With Holland’s future in the role unknown, this may be the ideal moment to develop a Garfield Spider-Man film. Although many believe the Amazing Spider-Man films to be steps backwards when compared to Sam Raimi’s trilogy with Tobey Maguire, Garfield’s participation in No Way Home implies that there is still room for future experimentation with his version of Peter Parker. Perhaps a crossover with Tom Hardy’s Venom will result in Garfield finally having a standalone Spider-Man feature that can compete with the excellence of the Maguire and Holland films.
