Angelina Jolie blames Clint Eastwood’s Changeling for her pregnancy with Brad Pitt
Actress Angelina Jolie appeared in filmmaker Clint Eastwood’s 2008 mystery crime drama movie Changeling, which was written by J. Michael Straczynski. The story of the movie is said to be based on real-life events, specifically the 1928 Wineville Chicken Coop murders in Mira Loma, California.
The story follows Jolie as a mother who is reunited with a boy who she thinks is her missing one but realizes that he is not and when she tries to communicate the same with the authorities, she is dubbed as delusional, unfit to be a mother and is confined to a psychiatric ward. The movie went on to have a mixed response from the audience and the critics, despite the acting of the cast being praised.
Interestingly, ahead of the release of the movie the actress who was at the time in a relationship with actor Brad Pitt had shared in her 2008 Los Angeles Times interview that she got pregnant with her first biological daughter, Shiloh, partially because she was working on the movie which centered around her being a mother. She said,
“I got pregnant right in the middle of filming Changeling, and I think partially because of it. I was so emotional about children that I think something in me kicked into gear.”
Angelina Jolie describes how Brad Pitt changed her view on biological children
During an interview with W Magazine in 2008, the actress noted how her then-partner Brad Pitt had managed to change her views on having biological children, as she said,
“I think one of the life-changing things that he did, one of many, is that I was absolutely never going to get pregnant. I never felt that it was the right thing to do. Now I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world.”
She further mentioned that her pregnancy taught her a lot about life compared to the time when they met and she would talk about only adopting children. She explained,
“He stopped talking about having other kids in the other way. So I suppose in my heart I realized that he was happy with them as his children, completely. I knew he would never see them as different, and that gave me a certain peace. Then I suppose I just looked at him and loved him and just felt open to [getting pregnant]. I suddenly wanted to. It’s one of those things you can’t explain.”
The couple welcomed their daughter Shiloh in 2006 and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline in 2008.
Angelina Jolie called Brad Pitt the ‘right man’ for her
During her interview with the W Magazine, the actress who had divorced Billy Bob Thornton and Johnny Lee Miller noted that Pitt was the right man for her and she knew it. She said,
“I do think that I’m good in partnership now. I think it just needed to be the right man. It’s not just that I love being in Brad’s company, which obviously I do, but it’s that we both roll up our sleeves and take on what we care about in the same way. I have a lot of respect for him, and he helps me to be better and fight hard for things that I love.”
However, the former couple decided to call it quits in 2016 as the actress filed for divorce and stated that the actor had physically assaulted her and the kids inside a private jet. The two of them legally separated in 2019 but since then, have been involved in a messy custody and property battle.
