Angelina Jolie Wanted To ‘Kill’ Ex-Husband Billy Bob Thornton, Said She Pictured Him While Attacking Brad Pitt in ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’
Mr. and Mrs. Smith, one of the highest-rated action comedy movies done by the famous Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in 2005 is a classic appreciated by many. The story is about two assassins unknowingly marrying each other only to find out they are on their respective assignments of killing each other. The movie being a mixture of comedy and action was a challenge for Jolie since she was accustomed to action films and quite nervous about doing a comedy genre film.
Throughout the movie, there are several action scenes portraying Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. However, there are some action scenes where Jolie had a longer screen time and she brought out her inner wrath on set, remembering someone from her past.
Angelina Jolie’s take on comedy scenes with co-star Brad Pitt
In an interview with NBC news, right after the release of the movie, Angelina Jolie stated about her challenges on set and how she channeled her wrath while filming. Mr. and Mrs. Smith was a project on Jolie’s end that brought out her potential for comedy films. Although it was a challenge for her, she never missed the opportunity of proving herself as one of Hollywood’s best actors.
“I was always much more comfortable in darker roles, in pain or quieter person and it takes a lot for me to feel that I have something to contribute in a light way, but I wouldn’t assume, yeah, I’m that fun friend that everybody feels at ease with,” Jolie shared in an interview with NBC news. She added, how her co-star Brad Pitt helped her find her humorous side “He is very funny which helped me be funny.”

Mr. and Mrs. Smith dealing with a lot of marriage stuff had some great commentary on the challenges of marriage, which hit Angelina Jolie close to home due to her personal dating history. Jolie’s marriage history with Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller got reflected in a lot of scenes. The actress claimed that remembering her previous marriages helped her perform the scenes where her character attempted to murder Brad Pitt.
Jolie once stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly “For me, it was a lot of thinking about old relationships I had — marriages I had — and thinking, Oh, that’s the point where I wanted to kill that person”. It seemed Brad Pitt helped her through the comedy scenes and remembering her ex-husbands helped her through the action scenes.
The movie was highly acclaimed and the actress wanted to shoot a sequel to it, however, she later let go of the idea since the pitch for Mr. and Mrs. Smith sequel didn’t match her expectations.
