Anne Hathaway Felt Guilty About Her Oscars Outfit Despite Winning First Academy Award in 2013- “winning an award for portraying pain”

Actress Anne Hathaway portrayed the character of Fantine in Les Misérables, who is the mother of Cosette, played by Amanda Seyfried. Fantine resorts to pr*stitution to send money to her daughter. The actress was highly praised for her work in the movie, but in an interview with THR, Hathaway shared that initially, she was not sure if she should take up the role. The actress mentioned,

There was resistance because I was between their ideal ages for the parts—maybe not mature enough for Fantine but past the point where I could believably play Cosette. And I did what I do when I really want a role: I got fiery and told my agent, ‘Just get me in the room.’

Hathaway got the part, and she played it beautifully to the point that she earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards 2013. The actress who is known for being one of the sweetest people in the industry did win her first Oscar, but her win felt like it was tainted to her.

In an interview with The Guardian, Hathaway admitted that she had lost her mind doing Les Misérables, and after she won the Best Supporting Actress Award, she found it very uncomfortable to accept the award. She said at the time,

I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I didn’t feel, which was uncomplicated happiness. It’s an obvious thing: you win an Oscar, and you’re supposed to be happy. I didn’t feel that way.

Anne Hathaway added that she, at that moment, felt wrong that she was standing on stage in a gown that probably cost more than some people who are going to see it in their lifetime. She mentioned that she did not feel right for,

Winning an award for portraying pain that still felt very much a part of the collective experience as human beings. I tried to pretend that I was happy, and I got called out on it, big time.

The actress recalled it’s the truth and that is exactly what happened, adding that an individual learns from a situation that they’re probably going to die from embarrassment, but nothing really happens.

Hathaway’s pink Prada dress, which she wore to the ceremony, cost $80,000 and was accompanied by a necklace that was worth $10 million.

Anne Hathaway shared her opinion on ‘toxic masculinity’

During the interview, Anne Hathaway was asked about her opinion on toxic masculinity, to which she noted that there is a difference between toxic masculinity and male energy. She explained,

I’m glad that you used the word ‘toxic’ because it’s very important to say that it’s very different from male energy. Male energy is beautiful. Male energy is welcome.

The actress continued that male energy is half the reason they were there and went on to address the criticism of the female stars of Ghostbusters received. She said it made her so sad about the whole experience that people seemed to be blaming the girls for the men who chose to hit the film that they were in.
