Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom Reveals Brand New Suit of Black Manta
James Wan’s Aquaman (2018) was a surprising anchor to the DC Extended Universe that was wobbling on its own wasted potentials after a shaky start. With over a $1 billion box-office collection, Aquaman became the highest-grossing DCEU movie leaving behind the likes of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, and Wonder Woman. An unlikely contender to beat DC’s golden trinity who has been the butt of many jokes over the years, Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry/Aquaman revamped the character on the big screen. Additionally, Amber Heard’s Mera, Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta particularly shone which made the movie even more memorable. Unsurprisingly, a sequel was announced with the original cast members returning for Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom. Prior to the movie’s release, Black Manta’s brand new look has been released.

In the first movie, Black Manta’s suit was all-black with a more militaristic and clandestine look incorporated into it which served the purpose. However, James Wan has shifted to a more comic-accurate look for the antagonist in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, specifically adapting the look from the New 52 version of the character from the comics.
As principal photography for Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom continues in London, the first look at the brand new suit donned by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was revealed on Sunday on Twitter by David Johnson-McGoldrick.

In the first Aquaman flick, Black Manta and Aquaman dealt blows where the Atlantean had the upper hand with some luck that led to Manta’s defeat. However, it was clearly established at the end of the movie that Black Manta was not letting it slide especially after witnessing Aquaman being directly responsible for his father’s death. Though Black Manta is no match for Aquaman when it comes to strength or agility, his superior technology compensates for it which will only be further elevated in the sequel. According to Jason Momoa, the sequel will have a lot more futuristic technologies on both sides that will further up the stakes. Earlier this year, the stealth suit of Aquaman was released which will make its appearance in the movie.

“We all learned something on the first one. It’s exciting because I haven’t made too many sequels. I just know that it’s, even on the page, it’s absolutely wonderful. There is so much going on. I think the stakes are a lot higher. There’s a lot of comedy. So, I mean, I giggled reading it. There’s a lot of fun, and definitely the action’s [bigger].
“I think just in the last three or four years, technology is constantly [evolving]… it’s just moving at such a rapid pace that what we’re doing with underwater [sequences], I mean, that’s what made the first one so amazing. It’s just gone on to a whole other level, so I’m excited for everyone because it’s just a lot more heart. There’s a lot more at risk.”
Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom is slated to release on December 16, 2022.
