As T-800 promised he’d be back in 1984’s The Terminator, he meant it and with a greater impact. Arnold Schwarzenegger reprised his commendable role and his project was incredibly praised for its compelling visual effects, action scenes, and of course the strong performances of the cast members.
James Cameron Shared His Experience Working With Arnold Schwarzenegger
James Cameron is regarded as one of the world’s finest directors of his time who has created numerous hit movies including The Terminator. However, before Cameron gave the leading role to Schwarzenegger, he was intimidated by the stairs of the Maggie star as he already become the seven-time winner of the Mr. Olympia title.
According to IMDb, the director shared:
“I was petrified at the start of The Terminator (1984). First of all, I was working with a star, at least I thought of him as a star at the time. Arnold came out of it even more a star.”
The actor was set to play Kyle Reese in the movie, but the director decided that Terminator would suit him the best. In an interview with GQ, Cameron said:
“I couldn’t get over how unique [Arnold Schwarzenegger’s] face was, how it almost just projected this kind of raw power. And my conception of the character had been that he was more of an infiltrator. But then my perspective shifted, and I would say that it kind of pivoted on a dime.”
Despite the fear of failure, Terminator came out to be a massive hit and is now considered one of the most successful film franchises paving the way for both Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron.
Terminator 2: Judgement Day is available to stream on Prime Video.
