Avatar: The Last Airbender Star Dallas Liu Wants Netflix to Introduce One Crucial Character in Season 2
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender continues to grow popular, exciting fans for the next season to catch up with the 100-year-old Avatar and his friends’ journey.
The first season has successfully concluded with eight episodes, leaving fans anticipating the next chapters. Thankfully Netflix has officially renewed the series for two seasons, for which Prince Zuko actor Dallas Liu expressed a desire to introduce another prominent character in the live-action.
Dallas Liu revealed that introducing Azula and Prince Zuko’s mother in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender would be really cool. It is worth noting that their mother is indeed an important character in the original series, especially in understanding the depth of Zuko and his sister’s behavior.
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Star Dallas Liu Wants To See Azula’s Mother in Season 2
The first season of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender made enough headlines from day 1, as fans are finding it hard to keep patience for the next season. The streamer has recently greenlit the second and third seasons of the live-action, as fans were concerned that the child actors are growing fast, and delaying might affect the believability of the characters.
However, now that we know there will be two more seasons to conclude the story, Prince Zuko actor Dallas Liu expressed hope to see his on-screen mother. In the original animated series, Ursa, the mother of Azula and Zuko plays a significant role, as she’s the reason why the siblings couldn’t share a close bond. In an interview with The Direct, Dallas Liu said:
“I mean, you know, one thing you know, if we get more seasons of our show, one thing that would be really cool to me is if they touched on Zuko and Azula’s mother more in our series… That’d be cool to get to see Azula’s relationship with her mom.”
The actor mentioned that Azula’s relationship with her mother would be interesting to see as, unlike her brother, Azula had a complex relationship with Ursa. The original story shows that Lord Ozai and Ursa weren’t happy with their marriage, and she wanted to protect her son from the Fire Lord’s evil intentions.
To save her children, Ursa made a deal with Mother of Faces, who changed Ursa’s appearance, followed by her disappearing and living in Earth Kingdom. However, her attempts to save Zuko from Lord Ozai resulted in a rivalry between Azula and her brother, as depicted in the live-action. So, to provide depth and understanding of their behaviors, introducing Ursa doesn’t sound bad.
Netflix Can Make Room For New Actor To Play Ursa in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season
While it hasn’t been confirmed that the live-action will introduce Prince Zuko and Azula’s mother, considering how they introduced Fire Lord Ozai before time, Netflix can cast a new actress to play Ursa. Since the next two seasons have been confirmed, and will feature some newcomers, the makers can utilize this opportunity to bring Ursa into the story.
Actor Daniel Dae Kim explained in an interview with GQ, that his character’s early arrival in the live-action was crucial to understanding his relationship with Prince Zuko, and it emerged as the right decision. In the same way, makers can introduce Ursa, to provide depth in Azula’s character and why did she form a rivalry with her own brother.
Currently, there’s no official date set for the release of season 2, but following the same production process as season 1, the next season might arrive sometime in mid-2026. However, if the scripts are completed timely, and the makers start filming, season 2 might arrive soon.
