‘Avengers: Endgame’ Needed 15 A-list Actors to Accomplish One Feat That ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Nearly Beat With Just 5 Icons
- Both Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Hom are cinematic masterpieces when it comes to superhero movies.
- No Way Home is very close to beating Endgame in terms of domestic collection despite its release happening two years later.
- No Wy Home featured many such elements that left fans clamoring with excitement each time a new character showed up.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is perhaps one of the biggest and most successful franchises to exist in the history of Hollywood. Similarly, Avengers is one of the most beloved superhero teams and has done phenomenally well at the box office in every outing so far. The most successful of these is obviously Avengers: Endgame.
The film broke records with its box-office collection, both domestic and worldwide. However, its domestic collection is not too far from Spider-Man: No Way Home. The web-slinging superhero is just as popular as the Avengers, if not more, so it does not come as too much of a surprise. It is the stark contrast in the number of A-list actors in the movies that makes one wonder about the impact each of them has.
Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Domestic Collection is Quite Close to That of Avengers: Endgame
Primarily based on the superheroes from the Marvel comics, the MCU has built an unrivaled reputation for itself in the industry. The past couple of years might have not been too good for the company. It has now made a comeback with the record-breaking Deadpool & Wolverine, which turned out to be the highest-grossing film of the year and earned the love of critics and audiences alike.
Before the company’s streak of lackluster movies began, blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home were released. Ironically, these movies are also the latest ones in their respective film series.
While Avengers: Endgame, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, was released in 2019, Spider-Man: No Way Home, directed by Jon Watts, was released in 2021. The one thing that sets them apart from each other is the fact that the former featured approximately 15 A-list stars and the latter starred 5.
Even so, their domestic opening collections are very close in numbers, with Endgame at $858.3 million (via Box Office Mojo) and No Way Home at $814.8 million (via Box Office Mojo). It has to be noted that these movies were released two years apart. Not to mention that COVID-19 was still in play when the latter of these films was released which led to it being released twice.
What Made Spider-Man: No Way Home So Successful?
One of the primary reasons why No Way Home performed so well was the high anticipation to find out whether or not Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s versions of Spider-Man show up in the movie. Tom Holland, infamous for letting out such details, surprisingly managed to keep this information tightly under wraps.
Additionally, giving the fans the Sinister Five, a group of 5 of Spider-Man’s biggest enemies, in the film was a great move. Fans had been begging the studio to give them the Sinister Six, the comic book’s original villain group.
However, even getting Sinister Five was a great deal for fans. Not to mention Spidey’s meeting with one of his greatest comic book allies, Charlie Cox. The movie gave the fans more than they had bargained for.
Avengers: Endgame is available for streaming on Disney+ and Spider-Man: No Way Home is available for streaming on Fubo TV.
