Ayo Edebiri, who rose through the ranks in the entertainment industry in recent years, is proving to be a force to be reckoned with. She keeps hitting one milestone after the other and winning millions of hearts with her work on the FX series The Bear.
Hailing from a working-class neighborhood in Boston and after trying her hand at teaching, Edebiri began pursuing a comedy career. She served as a writer on What We Do in the Shadows, Dickinson, and the animated hit Big Mouth before making her big leap to the screens. After her phenomenal performance as Sydney Adamu in The Bear, she has now directed an episode of the third season which might win her a second Emmy.
Ayo Edebiri Might End Up Overtaking Viola Davis in This One Regard
Edebiri made her acting debut with the 2020 digital series Ayo and Rachel Are Single, which she co-wrote and starred in with friend and fellow comedian Rachel Sennott. In 2022, she graced the screens as Sydney in the Jeremy Allen White-led show, which won numerous accolades in the last award season.
The Bottoms actress won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in The Bear. Additionally, she also won a Golden Globe Award and a SAG Award. Now, she seems to have her eyes set on another Emmy Award as the director of the sixth episode, Napkins of the show’s third season.

Fans have also praised Liza Colón-Zayas for her portrayal of Tina Marrero in the show. If Edebiri wins another Emmy Award, it will put her ahead of fellow Black actress Viola Davis, who won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress for her role in How to Get Away with Murder.
Ayo Edebiri on Her Experience as a Director on the Show for the First Time
The award-winning comedy-drama seems to be bringing a series of firsts for Edebiri, and she has been taking all of that in stride. In an interview with BBC, she opened up about her experience as a director for the first time:
I had a total blast and I learnt so much from it. I love our cast but being able to collaborate with them from a different vantage point gave me so much more appreciation for them but also appreciation for the sheer amount of effort it takes to make television. It really is such a powerful and beautiful machine.
The actress also recently starred in the animated movie Inside Out 2. She almost made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a member of the Thunderbolts cast but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Hopefully, she will get the chance to star in a different MCU movie.
