Before Emma Watson’s Success With Disney, Margot Robbie Almost Played an Iconic Princess Role With Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter
The audience was drawn to the live version of the Disney film Beauty and the Beast, which premiered in 2017 starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. The movie was helmed by Bill Condon and had a script by Stephen Chbosky. The film is the second most-grossing re-adaptation of the film ever.
But before Beauty and the Beast, Kenneth Branagh directed Cinderella, which starred Lily James and Richard Madden, based on a script by Chris Weitz, and was released in 2015. It received positive reviews from the critics and the audience, along with Lily James, who received a lot of accolades for the role, and was actually not the first choice for the part. Let’s know more.
Emma Watson turned down the role of Cinderella, while Margot Robbie was considered
It was reported at the time that Emma Watson, before taking up the role in Beauty and the Beast, was offered Cinderella, which apparently she turned down. In an interview with Total Film magazine via People, she said,
“I didn’t know they were going to make Beauty And The Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella. But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did.”
Later, according to Collider, Margot Robbie, Bella Heathcote, and Lily James were considered for the part of Cinderella along with Saoirse Ronan, but it was Lily James who swept it and received appreciation for playing the part perfectly. The movie also starred legendary actresses Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter.
Emma Watson on portraying Belle over Cinderella
In her interview with Total Magazine via People, the actress explained why she believed that Belle was the princess she wanted to portray rather than Cinderella on-screen. She said,
“She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that’s the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice. There’s this kind of outsider quality that Belle had and the fact she had this really empowering defiance of what was expected of her. In a strange way, she challenges the status quo of the place she lives in, and I find that really inspiring.”
Emma Watson along with the makers created a backstory for the character to give her a modernized version.

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling to have a Barbie reunion with Ocean’s 11 Prequel
Even though Robbie didn’t play Cinderella in the 2015 movie, she did play Barbie and break records making the movie the highest-grossing movie for Warner Bros. The studio is now hoping to replicate the same chemistry for their upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel.
This is going to be the first Ocean’s project since Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett led in 2018 with Ocean’s 8. Not much has been known about the upcoming movie yet.
However, Josey McNamara spoke to Games Radar and spoke about the project, stating, “I can’t really say much. But I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready.”
Talking about Robbie and Gosling, Josey said that they are wonderful together and more projects, even outside of what they, can have to do, would be amazing.
