Gal Gadot Was The Choice For Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Before Margot Robbie Got The Role

During an interview with the media outlet Vogue, Margot Robbie spoke about her movie Barbie and even confessed which actor was the first choice for the character of Barbie. She said-

“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”

Unfortunately, the Wonder Woman of Hollywood, Gal Gadot was not available for the filming of the fantasy drama. While writing the script of Barbie, Greta Gerwig kept the objective of introducing a different version of the Mattel doll very clear, she said-

” Part of it had to do with the fact that their characters were dolls. It’s like you’re playing with dolls when you’re writing something, and in this case, of course, there was this extra layer in that they were dolls,”

As per Greta Gerwig, the idea of casting multiple Kens and Barbies came from a Mattel tour she had taken during the filming of the movie. She said in an interview with Vogue-

“Now all of the dolls are Barbie. All of them are Barbie, and Barbie is everyone. Philosophically, I was like, Well, now that’s interesting.”

The star-studded cast of the Margot Robbie-led movie included multiple versions of Barbies and Kens that were played by Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, Ana Cruz Kayne, and Hari Nef. Barbie went on to become the biggest blockbuster of 2023, leaving behind Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7.
