Before Getting Embarrassed about His Life-Changing Role Barbie Star Ryan Gosling Left His Education as Soon as He Got Disney’s Success
Ryan Gosling is one of the most acclaimed in Hollywood, thanks to his portrayal of Kenneth Carson aka Ken in Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy film Barbie which is one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. He gained recognition for starring opposite the Canadian actress Rachel McAdams in the 2004 romantic drama The Notebook.
The Notebook showcased Gosling and McAdams’ acting skills unconventionally because they were working on a romantic movie but never really got along during its filming. Ryan Gosling went on to several great movies over the years. However, what many might not know is that he is a high school dropout.
Ryan Gosling Dropped Out of High School
Since he had a hard time at school, the Blue Valentine actor’s mother left her job to homeschool him for a year which helped him shape as a person by giving him a sense of autonomy. At the mere age of 12, he managed to beat 17,000 auditionees for a role in Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club in Montreal.
Despite not being a part of the lead cast, he starred in episodes alongside the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera. This caused a two-year gap in his studies. He returned to Canada and started studying at the Lester B. Pearson High School. This, however, did not last long as he dropped out of school once again to move to Hollywood at the age of 17.
Ryan Gosling Is Not The Only School Dropout
Ryan Gosling dropping out of high school is not exactly surprising because many artists have dropped out of their high schools to hone their crafts. Jim Carrey, Christina Applegate, and John Travolta are also dropouts. Leaving school in pursuit of chasing their dreams has ended well more times than not; the Blade Runner 2049 actor himself stands as the biggest example of this.
While school is given a lot of importance for a kid’s academic development, it never seemed to be Gosling’s thing. Growing up in Ontario, Canada, the actor used to love singing, dancing, and watching old movies. His favorite actor was Marlon Brando (also a high school dropout) whose voice he would mimic to protect himself from bullies in elementary school.

Ryan Gosling Felt Embarrassed About Some of His Roles In The Mickey Mouse Club
As grown-ups, there are some incidences that everyone feels embarrassed about. Ryan Gosling being vocal about those in an interview might not have been on anyone’s bucket list, not even the star’s own. Disney Channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club might have given Gosling the break he needed, but he is not proud of the show being on his CV.

During an interview with his co-star Margot Robbie on BBC Radio 1, Ryan Gosling said that wearing some over-the-top outfits in Barbie would not even count in his top moments of looking odd. After mentioning his role as Young Hercules, he said that he had dressed as a hamster on The Mickey Mouse Club. Robbie told him that she would look up the internet for the scene which immediately caused the La la Land star to regret bringing it up.
