Benedict Cumberbatch Takes A Centrist Position In The Scorsese-Marvel War. Read His Comments Inside.
Martin Scorsese has started a war on Marvel by saying that Marvel movies are not cinema. Many others like Francis Ford Coppola have joined him as well, adding to his comments and saying that Marvel movies are despicable. On the other side, Marvel too has it supporters as James Gunn and Natalie have publicly supported the franchise both of them are a part of. Now another Marvel stars has joined the list. But he has taken a more centrist position rather than choose a side.
Benedict Cumberbatch Comments On The Scorsese-Marvel War
This time, it is Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch who has offered his view on the ongoing Scorsese-Marvel war. He said on The Jenny McCarthy Show that:
“What’s great about this, I know there’s been a lot of debate recently with very fine filmmakers coming to the fore saying that these film franchises are taking over everything, but lucky us actors who get to do both kinds of variety of either polarity of budgeting. I agree we don’t want one king to rule it all and have a kind of monopoly. Hopefully, that’s not the case and we should really look into supporting filmmakers at every level.”
Which Side Is Benedict Cumberbatch Supporting?
Cumberbatch’s words seem to toe the fine line between supporting Marvel movies while also giving weightage to the finer points of Scorsese’s comments regarding superhero franchises taking over cinema. But one comment of his does ring true and that is the fact that actors here win since they get to do movies of all kinds. Mostly actors choose to go from huge franchises like Marvel to smaller productions and even help get those projects greenlit.
Benedict Cumberbatch was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. He will reprise his role in Doctor Strange 2 titled Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
