Best Paramount Movies To Look Forward To Next Year
Following a modest year in 2020, which saw some box office misfires like Snake Eyes, successes like A Quiet Place Part II, and the launch of the new streaming service Paramount+, Paramount Pictures is poised to have a big year in 2022, with many of its biggest and most high-profile films scheduled to release between 2021 and 2022.
The studio plans to release a mix of highly anticipated franchise films such as Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7, as well as interesting and original films from talented filmmakers such as Kenneth Branagh’s Bee Gees biopic and Damien Chazelle’s Golden Age of Hollywood film Babylon in 2022, giving viewers plenty to look forward to.
Jackass Forever (Releasing on February 4th)
The upcoming reality stunt comedy Jackass Forever, the first entry in the series since 2010 and the fourth overall, sees franchise staples like Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O joined by newcomers and celebrity guest stars for more outrageous pranks and hilariously dangerous stunts, making the film one of the comedies that fans are most looking forward to in 2022.
While the Jackass flicks are not for everyone, fans can expect more of the sophomoric humor and slapstick comedy that has made the franchise so famous. With sequences including a live bear and Knoxville wrestling a bull in the trailer, the film looks to take risk and action to a new level.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Releasing on April 8th)
Despite the initial negative reaction to the first teaser, Sonic the Hedgehog was a surprise smash that proved to be pleasant and entertaining family entertainment. The nefarious Doctor Eggman teams up with Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to try to discover Master Emerald, leading Sonic and Tails to race to get it first.
The film aims to retain the fun of the original while extending the environment and drawing on Sonic legend by introducing additional characters from the games and bringing back great comedy talents like Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz.
Mission Impossible: 7 (Releasing on September 30th)
The Mission: Impossible series has undoubtedly become the most consistent and exhilarating action franchise, with fans eagerly anticipating the release of each new installment. The upcoming Mission: Impossible film, Mission: Impossible 7, will follow Ethan Hunt and his team of spies on their escapades.
The Mission: Impossible franchise is notorious for its over-the-top action scenes, many of which feature Tom Cruise placing himself in danger to shoot the stunt, with the marketing usually emphasizing the most recent death-defying performance. The season is set to bring more of what fans have grown to anticipate and love about the franchise, with more spectacular action moments and new cast members like Pom Klementieff and Hayley Atwell.
Babylon (Releasing on 25 December)
The planned film Babylon, directed by Damien Chazelle, will investigate the film industry’s shift from silent pictures to talkies during the Golden Age of Hollywood. The film will include an all-star ensemble that includes Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.
Despite its contemporary setting, the phenomenally popular La La Land highlighted Chazelle’s apparent love of vintage Hollywood, so fans of the filmmaker are anxious to see him bring this narrative to life with such a superb ensemble. Given the cast and the picture’s December release date, Paramount is preparing the film for an Oscar push if it can live up to the director’s prior work.
Top Gun: (Maverick Releasing on May 27)
Top Gun: Maverick sees Tom Cruise reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, now an experienced serviceman who teaches Top Gun grads when he meets the son of his late buddy, Goose.
Given the previous film’s cultural significance and standing as one of Tom Cruise’s finest action films, the long-awaited sequel is one of the most anticipated movies of 2022. The picture seeks to honor the history of the past while also pushing the series on a new path, with veteran actors Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer joined by new talents Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, and Jon Hamm.
